  • Patent number: 9503517
Abstract: A storage management system monitors an indicator of whether data storage is capable of meeting a performance description as stored on a current implementation resource, such as a storage server. The indicator may be used to determine whether none, some or all of the data storage should be moved from the current implementation resource to an available implementation resource.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 7, 2012
Date of Patent: November 22, 2016
    Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.

  • Patent number: 9141309
Abstract: A data storage device is modified or adapted to support the storage and retrieval of versioned data sets. In some embodiments, the modified or adapted data storage device is capable of writing and tracking multiple data sets per logical location, and is capable of retrieving a specific versioned data set upon receiving a read request for that version of the data set.

  • Publication number: 20150234716
Abstract: The relative health of data storage drives may be determined based, at least in some aspects, on data access information and/or other drive operation information. In some examples, upon receiving the operation information from a computing device, a health level of a drive may be determined. The health level determination may be based at least in part on operating information received from a client entity. Additionally, a storage space allocation instruction or operation may be determined for execution. The allocation instruction or operation determined to be performed may be based at least in part on the determined health level.

  • Patent number: 8935203
Abstract: A storage controller is implemented for controlling a storage system. The storage controller may be implemented using a distributed computer system and may include components for servicing client data requests based on the characteristics of the distributed computer system, the client, or the data requests. The storage controller is scalable independently of the storage system it controls. All components of the storage controller, as well as the client, may be virtual or hardware-based instances of a distributed computer system.

  • Patent number: 8676943
Abstract: Architectures and techniques are described to manage a site according to the content of a number of documents. In some cases, the number of documents may include a fleet state document that specifies aspects related to the site, such as performance metrics. Additionally, fleet creation documents may be created that indicate tasks to be executed in order to realize the aspects specified in the fleet state document. Further, task attribute maps specifying values for the attributes of each task upon execution may also be created. A workflow engine may execute the tasks of the fleet creation documents according to the values of the task attribute maps in order to configure computing devices of a fleet to realize the aspects of the fleet state document.
