  • Patent number: 7355998
Abstract: A plurality of virtual wireless networks are defined. Each of the plurality of virtual wireless networks has a different set of requirements. • Publication number: 20070291695
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for facilitating lossless handover in a wireless communication system comprising at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), a source evolved Node B (eNB), a target eNB, and a mobility management entity/user plane entity (MME/UPE) where the WTRU is in wireless communication with the source eNB. The source eNB determines to handover the WTRU to the target eNB, requests status reports from the WTRU, and requests handover to the target eNB. The handover request includes context information relating to the WTRU which is sent to the target eNB. The target eNB configures resources for the WTRU and transmits a handover response signal to the source eNB. The source eNB commands the WTRU to perform a handover to the target eNB and forwards data to the target eNB. The WTRU performs the handover to the target eNB.

  • Publication number: 20070206550
Abstract: A method and apparatus for simultaneously processing data in a wireless communication system comprises a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) having a plurality of communication links. The WTRU determines desired characteristics for each communication link. Data traffic is mapped to at least one communication link based on the link characteristics, and a desired redundancy level. The processed data is then transmitted on the at least one communication link, along with the redundancy information.

  • Publication number: 20070192585
Abstract: In a wireless communication system comprising at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and a trusted entity, a method and apparatus for processing data during an event, includes storing data in a memory of the WTRU. The stored data is classified in the memory of the WTRU. The WTRU detects an event and transmits a notification signal to the trusted entity in response to the event detected. The trusted entity transmits a readiness signal to the WTRU. The WTRU transmits data classified for transfer to the trusted entity, and the trusted entity stores the data classified for transfer in a memory of the trusted entity.

  • Publication number: 20070117563
Abstract: A method and system for call setup in an evolved third generation (3G) radio access network are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) sends its identity to a core network (CN) for call setup when the WTRU is in an RRC_disconnected state. The CN verifies the identity and sends an authentication vector to the WTRU. The WTRU sends a service access request message including an authentication response to the CN via a Node-B. The Node-B performs an admission control. The CN attaches the WTRU if the authentication response is same to an expected response. The Node-B then allocates radio resources to the WTRU. The Node-Bs may be directly connected, or may be connected to a control plane server which performs admission control. When the WTRU is transitioning from an RRC_idle state to an RRC_connected state, the WTRU may or may not need to re-authenticate again.

  • Publication number: 20070115893
Abstract: A method and system for managing radio resources in a time-slotted wireless communication system is based on the quality of service (QoS) information of a user. A plurality of time slots of a radio resource are sorted into a plurality of different categories, such as high QoS time slots, high capacity time slots, and balanced time slots. Each category is associated with a different level of QoS. QoS information with respect to a user is obtained in response to a radio resource request received from the user. The user is associated with a particular category of time slots based on the QoS information of the user.

  • Publication number: 20070111731
Abstract: In triggering a handoff by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) from a current basic service set (BSS) in a wireless local area network (WLAN), the following are performed. A highest class of traffic service and quality of service (QoS) is determined for the highest class from a basic service set (BSS) beacon. Handoff is terminated and communication is retained with a current BSS when the signal to noise ratio (SNR) or received signal strength (RSS) is greater than a high threshold of the highest class. Other criteria is evaluated to determine whether a handoff is desired when the SNR or RSS is less than the high threshold.

  • Publication number: 20070104139
Abstract: A method and system for autonomous channel coordination for a wireless distribution system (WDS) are disclosed. A wireless communication system includes a plurality of access points (APs) and the APs communicate each other via a WDS. A coordinated channel group (CCG) of a plurality of member APs is established. The member APs of the CCG camp on a WDS channel used for the WDS among the member APs of the CCG. One AP among the member APs of the CCG is designated as a master AP. The master AP coordinates with other member APs of the CCG for selecting and configuring the WDS channel for the CCG and addition and deletion of member APs. By allowing APs to define a CCG, changes of the WDS channel are performed autonomously while maintaining connectivity.

  • Publication number: 20070104138
Abstract: A method and system for performing peer-to-peer wireless communication between stations (STAs) within a basic service set (BSS) while maintaining connectivity with an access point (AP) in the BSS are disclosed. A source STA, an AP and a destination STA negotiate a direct link setup (DLS) channel for performing peer-to-peer communication between the source STA and the destination STA. The DLS channel may be different from a BSS channel used for communication between the AP and each of the STAs. The source STA and the destination STA then perform peer-to-peer communication on the negotiated DLS channel.

  • Publication number: 20070104166
Abstract: A method for operating a wireless mobile device moving through different types of networks includes storing within the wireless mobile device a type of network associated with a respective access node as the wireless mobile device moves through the different types of networks. A type of connectivity available for each access node is stored within the wireless mobile device, as well as location of each access node. The wireless mobile device is operated with a current access node corresponding to one type of network based on a current location of the wireless mobile device. Handoff is initiated by the wireless mobile device from the current access node to another access node corresponding to a different type of network based on movement of the wireless mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20070097903
Abstract: A method and apparatus for exchanging messages via a wireless distribution system (WDS) between groups operating on different frequencies are disclosed. A wireless communication system includes a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) and a plurality of basic service sets (BSSs). At least one WTRU belongs to each BSS. A source WTRU desiring to send a WDS packet to a destination WTRU in another BSS sends an availability notification (AN) message to WTRUs which the source WTRU is associated with to indicate that the source WTRU will not be available to receive data. The source WTRU then accesses a channel on which the destination WTRU camps and sends a packet to the destination WTRU. After transmission of the packet, or receiving an acknowledgement from the destination WTRU, the source WTRU reverts back to the original channel.

  • Publication number: 20060277450
Abstract: A method for determining whether a data transmission rate in a wireless communication system is appropriate for current system conditions begins by calculating a frame error rate (FER) for a given period of time and obtaining a current data rate. If the current data rate is greater than a minimum data rate and the FER is a high value, then the system switches to a lower data rate. If the current data rate is greater than a minimum data rate and the FER is less than a high value, then the system maintains the current data rate. If the current data rate is less than a maximum data rate and the FER is a low value, then the system determines whether a higher data rate can be used.

  • Publication number: 20060230238
Abstract: A multi-node communication system and method used to request, report and collect destination-node-based measurements and route-based measurements is disclosed. The communication system may be a mesh network including a plurality of mesh points (MPs). In one embodiment, a destination-node-based measurement request is sent to one or more destination nodes via destination-unicast, destination-multicast, or destination-broadcast, using routes specified via next-hop-unicast, next-hop-multicast, or next-hop-broadcast addressing. In another embodiment, a source node sends a measurement request message to a final destination node, whereby each node along the route individually sends a measurement report message to the source node. Alternatively, measurement results of each node are combined and appended to the measurement request message, and a measurement report message including the combined measurement results is sent to the source node.
