Patent number: 10706514Abstract: Various techniques are provided for using one or more thermal infrared (IR) imaging modules to enhance the dynamic range of images. In one example, devices and methods provide a first IR imaging module that captures a first image, a second IR imaging module optimized for higher IR irradiance that captures a second image, and a processing system that detects saturated pixels of the first image, determines pixels of the second image corresponding to the saturated pixels of the first image, and generates a combined image based on non-saturated pixels of the first image and the pixels of the second image. The IR imaging modules may be a microbolometer focal plane array (FPA) configured for high-gain, and a microbolometer FPA configured for low-gain. The IR imaging modules may be a photon detector FPA and a microbolometer FPA.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2017Date of Patent: July 7, 2020Assignee: FLIR SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Vu L. Nguyen, Nicholas Högasten, Tomas Lannestedt, Magnus Boman

Patent number: 10645310Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for processing information in images pictured by infrared cameras comprising the steps of receiving radiation from at least one object in an area; extracting radiometric information from the radiation; transforming the radiometric information into at least one digital image file; storing the at least one digital image file and at least one digital function file comprising an executable code characterised by the steps of merging the executable code of the at least one digital function file into or with the at least one digital image file, thereby generating an executable digital image file, wherein the executable code comprises at least one instruction and is written in a programming language independent of system architecture. The invention further relates to a computer program product.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2016Date of Patent: May 5, 2020Assignee: FLIR Systems ABInventors: Björn Roth, Magnus Boman

Patent number: 8680468Abstract: An IR camera includes a first optical subsystem for generating an IR image of an object and a second optical subsystem for generating a visual light image of the object. The IR camera further includes a focusing device for focusing the first optical subsystem. The IR camera also has a processor for determining a focus distance for focusing the first optical subsystem on the object. The processor determines the focus distance based on a displacement of a feature in the visual light image.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2010Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: FLIR Systems ABInventors: Katrin Strandemar, Björn Roth, Magnus Boman
