  • Publication number: 20130003560
Abstract: A method and arrangement for estimating the current channel quality for a data transfer in a mobile network. In a sending system entity, a channel quality estimate (CQE) associated with a data transfer to a receiving system entity in a mobile communication network is adjusted. One or more probing packets are communicated 400 between the sending system entity and the receiving system entity, each probing packet being formatted according to a predefined combination of transmission parameters. Furthermore, is a Channel State Information (CSI) report received 404 from the receiving system entity, and the CQE is adjusted 406 based on the CSI report and which probing packets have been successfully communicated. By sending a sequence of probing packets, each formatted according to a predefined combination of transmission parameters, and not waiting for each packet to be acknowledged, a fast and accurate estimation of the current channel quality is achieved.

  • Patent number: 8325624
Abstract: Method and apparatus for enabling accurate link quality estimation of a wireless link between a sending node (400) and a receiving node (402). When the sending node receives link state reports from the receiving node, it estimates the current state of the wireless link. The sending node also determines a measurement adjusting parameter if the link state reports are deemed inaccurate in relation to the estimated link state, based on a deviation between the received link state reports and the estimated actual link state. The sending node then sends the determined measurement adjusting parameter to the receiving node, and the receiving node provides a link state report based on signal measurements adjusted by the measurement adjusting parameter. The adjusted link state report can then be used for link adaptation of the wireless link and/or for packet scheduling decisions.

  • Publication number: 20120287813
Abstract: Method and arrangement in a network entity for supporting link adaptation in a wireless communication system. The method comprises obtaining 204 one or more predicted parameters related to the quality of a radio link. The method further comprises measuring 206 one or more actual parameters, corresponding to the one or more predicted parameters. The method further comprises deriving 208 one or more error distributions based on the difference between the predicted and actual one or more parameters, from which error distributions a link adaptation margin estimate is derived, based on a predetermined radio link quality target. The link adaptation margin estimate is then used for supporting link adaptation for the radio link.

  • Publication number: 20120170553
Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system for dynamically assigning orthogonal codes to different information signals communicated between a Node B and user equipment in a cellular radio communication system in which a fixed number of codes are allocated between dedicated transport channels (DCHs) and high speed downlink shared channels (HS-DSCHs). A radio controller (RNC) allocates a minimum number of codes for HS-DSCH physical channels (HS-PDSCH codes) to the Node B. The Node B determines HS-PDSCH codes that are not currently being utilized and allocates HS-PDSCH codes from the unused codes without having to communicate with the RNC. When the additional HS-PDSCH codes are needed for DCH codes, the Node B reallocates the codes for DCH purposes without reducing the number of HS-PDSCH codes below the allocated minimum.

  • Publication number: 20110128930
Abstract: Method and arrangement in a base station for selecting a transmission parameter. The selected transmission parameter is used when sending a signal over a radio channel to a user equipment in a wireless communication network. The radio channel is allocated bandwidth for signalling. The method comprises the step of obtaining an estimation of the signal quality of the radio channel. Also, the allocation to the radio channel. Further yet, the method may comprise the step of calculating a signal quality margin, which signal quality margin is based on the bandwidth size. Still further, the method comprises the step of selecting the transmission parameter based on the estimated signal quality of the radio channel and the calculated signal quality margin.

  • Patent number: 7873362
Abstract: A simple and reliable method for dimensioning CDMA based networks is achieved by a method for evaluating or dimensioning a radio network comprising the steps of—defining a radio network model comprising at least one radio base station and a plurality of mobile terminals, —for each mobile terminal in the model, defining a path gain value for a signal path between the mobile terminal and each of the radio base stations, said method being characterized by the steps of—for each mobile terminal, selecting at least one of said path gain values, —defining a data set comprising at least one parameter based on said selected at least one path gain value for each mobile terminal, and—performing dimensioning calculations on the data set. Especially if data sets are prestored the dimensioning calculations can be carried out in very short time.

  • Publication number: 20100309801
Abstract: The present invention relates to a solution for taking into account that the interference, which each of the transmission resource elements is affected by, may differ between the different transmission resource elements when determining an interference estimate by determining a mixed interference estimate, e.g. based on both reference symbols and data symbols. Furthermore, signalling from the network is also introduced which makes it possible to control what the mixed interference estimate should be based on.

  • Publication number: 20100214966
Abstract: The present invention relates to a base station and a method in a mobile communication network comprising means for transmitting information to User Equipments (UEs), on a first channel and means for transmitting data packets to said UEs on a second channel. The timing of the first channel and second channel is overlapping, and the base station comprises means for setting individual power levels of the first channel for each scheduled UE. The base station according to the present invention comprises means for setting the power level of the second channel for a first scheduled UE based on the power level setting for the first channel for at least a subsequently scheduled second UE based on an early UE scheduling decision.

  • Publication number: 20100197330
Abstract: A receiving unit or a transmitting unit of a wireless network, for facilitating noise and interference measurements on an air interface. The receiving unit includes: a network interface which obtains information relating to a time-varying layout of a silent resource element (RE) grid; an electronic memory having code in communication with the network interface which stores the information; and a processing unit in communication with the electronic memory that takes a presence of a silent RE grid into account in the reception of a control or a data channel. A method for a receiving/transmitting unit of a wireless network for facilitating noise and interference measurements on an air interface is described. Information relating to a time-varying layout of a silent resource element (RE) grid is obtained and a presence of a silent RE grid is taken into account in the reception of a control or a data channel.
