  • Patent number: 7393926
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a method for attaching two surfaces to each other or coating a surface by providing a bioadhesive composition consisting of an aqueous solution of a bioadhesive polyphenolic protein derived from a byssus-forming mussel, and mixing said bioadhesive composition with a preparation comprising non-enzymatic oxidising periodate ions so that the concentration of periodate ions is at least 1.80 mmol/g in the final composition before applying the mixture to at least one of two surfaces to be attached to each other or coated or applying said composition and said periodate ions without any specific order, to at least one of two surfaces to be attached to each other or the surface to be coated, thereby mixing the bioadhesive composition and the periodate ions. • Publication number: 20060054276
Abstract: The present invention pertains to the use of an acidic aqueous solution of a bioadhe-sive polyphenolic protein, derived from a byssus-forming mussel, for attaching two surfaces to each other or coating a surface, which acidic solution has a pH of 4 or less and in which the concentration of the bioadhesive protein is between 10-250 mg/ml. The acidic aqueous solution of the polyphenolic protein is added directly as a sole component to the surfaces to be attached to each other or the surface to be coated.

  • Patent number: 6335430
Abstract: The invention relates to a process of producing MAP-products from mussel feet. The process is characterised by extracting the mussel feet in a weakly acid aqueous solution containing, for instance, 1-10 percent by weight of a weak acid and 0.5-3 percent by weight of perchloric acid, whereafter the proteins in the aqueous solution are precipitated by adding inorganic or organic salts and separated from the system, subsequent to having extracted the solid substances.

  • Patent number: 5653702
Abstract: An absorbent body in an absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin, panty protector, incontinence guard, diaper or the like. The absorbent body includes a first layer, an admission layer (4), which comprises a mixture of 80-95% resilient fibres and 5-20% heat-actuable binding fibres, preferably bicomponent fibres, and a second layer, a storage and dispersion layer (5), which comprises a mixture of 45-90% absorbent fibres and 5-15% heat-actuable binding fibres, wherein the binding fibres are heat treated so as to bond together and to hold the fibre structures together in the first and second layers (4, 5), such that these layers will form a laminate that has a tensile strength of at least 2N/50 mm in a dry state. The absorbent body also has a high surface dryness and low rewetting tendency and exhibits good absorption properties.
