Publication number: 20240137842Abstract: The present disclosure describes apparatuses and techniques of adaptive PLMN management for varying network conditions. In some aspects, a PLMN manager of a user equipment (UE) searches, as part of a registration procedure, a data repository of PLMN information that includes a PLMN blocked from registration for a duration of time and determines that the PLMN is blocked due to a signal-related condition with a cell of the PLMN (e.g., weak signal). The PLMN manager then determines, during the duration of time, that the signal-related condition between the UE and the cell has improved. In response to the improvement, the PLMN manager unblocks the PLMN before expiration of the duration of time. By so doing, the UE may reattempt registration with the unblocked PLMN at least once before the duration of time expires, which may allow the UE to register more quickly and reestablish network services.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 11, 2023Publication date: April 25, 2024Inventors: Mahesh Devdatta Telang, Qin Zhang, Shivank Nayak, Rukun Mao

Publication number: 20220369406Abstract: A first user equipment (UE) that is initially coupled to a second UE and a base station enters an out-of-service (OOS) state upon losing its wireless connection to a service via the base station. The first UE attempts to reestablish the connection while sending OOS recovery parameters to the second UE. The second UE does not automatically scan for service if a signal strength of its connection to the first UE is above a predetermined threshold level. In response to losing its connection to the first UE or determining that the signal strength of its connection to the first UE is less than the predetermined threshold level, the second UE activates one or more corresponding modems and executes OOS recovery protocols based on the OOS recovery parameters received from the first UE to attempt to regain service.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2022Publication date: November 17, 2022Inventors: Mahesh Devdatta Telang, Shivank Nayak

Patent number: 9820085Abstract: The present disclosure provides techniques for assigning virtual international mobile subscriber identity (VIMSI) to the peripheral device associated with the user equipment (UE) based in part on the mobile device identification (ID) of the UE itself. As such, peripheral devices that are configured with dual radios (e.g., short range communication chips and cellular radio) do not require a separate subscriber information module (SIM) chip to establish cellular connectivity independent of the UE. Moreover, because the peripheral device is allocated a VIMSI based on the mobile ID of the UE, the peripheral devices also achieve an advantage of maintaining the same phone number as the UE.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2016Date of Patent: November 14, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Mahesh Devdatta Telang, Rakesh Maramreddy, Madhusudan Kinthada Venkata, Bhavik Shah

Publication number: 20170223597Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication at a wireless device. In some aspects, the wireless device may detect a desired operations change from a first operational state to a second operational state which uses a different number of radio resources than the first operational state. The wireless device may determine that there is an active call on a first radio resource or modem. The wireless device may perform a handover process to transfer the active call from the first radio resource to a second radio resource or modem. The handover process may be performed based on the detecting the operations change. The second radio resource provides a wireless service different from that provided by the first radio resource. The wireless device may disable the first radio resource or modem based on completing the handover process.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 29, 2016Publication date: August 3, 2017Inventors: Mahesh Devdatta Telang, Arif Syed, Chaithanya Arla, Xinli Song

Patent number: 9565546Abstract: Various methods, apparatus, and computer readable media are disclosed for enhanced system acquisition while a user equipment (UE) is roaming. The UE may detect roaming from a coverage area associated with a first public land mobile network (PLMN) supporting hybrid voice and data to a coverage area associated with a second PLMN without support for hybrid voice and data. In response to the detection, the UE may store data corresponding to the second PLMN such that the second PLMN is a registered PLMN (RPLMN). The UE may initiate system acquisition, wherein the system acquisition includes searching for the RPLMN prior to searching for any other PLMN. The other PLMN may include a home PLMN (HPLMN). The coverage area associated with the first PLMN may be within a first country, and the coverage area associated with the second network may be within a second country different from the first country.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2015Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Mahesh Devdatta Telang, Ameya Rajendraprasad Kasbekar, Rohit Kumar Maharana
