  • Publication number: 20100290584
Abstract: When performing nuclear (e.g., SPECT or PET) and CT scans on a patient, a volume cone-beam CT scan is performed using a cone-beam CT X-ray source (20) and an offset flat panel X-ray detector (22). A field of view of the X-ray source overlaps a field of view of two nuclear detector heads (18), and the offset of the X-ray detector (22) minimizes interference with nuclear detector head movement about a rotatable gantry (16). Additionally, a locking mechanism (80) provides automatically locking of the X-ray detector (22) in each of a stowed and operation position, improving safety and CT image quality.

  • Patent number: 7823589
Abstract: A mask apparatus for use in a breathing assistance system may include a ball joint at least partially defined by a housing, a ball member, and a mounting system. The housing may be configured to support a cushion configured to provide a seal against a patient's face. The housing may include a first side defining a first housing opening, and a second side configured to face the cushion and defining a second housing opening. The ball member may be positioned in the first housing opening and may define a ball member opening configured for communicating gas though the first housing opening. The mounting system may be configured to secure the ball member in the first housing opening such that the housing, the ball member, and the mounting system define a ball joint allowing the ball member to rotate about multiple axes relative to the housing and the mounting system.

  • Patent number: 7810499
Abstract: A gas exhaust system for a mask apparatus for use in a breathing assistance system may include a housing for supporting a cushion configured to provide a seal against a patient's face, the housing defining a housing opening, and a ball member secured in the housing opening such that the ball member may rotate relative to the housing. One or more exhaust passageways for communicating exhaust gas away from the patient may be defined between an outer surface of the ball member and the housing opening.

  • Publication number: 20080083644
Abstract: A power supply interface system for a medical device may include a battery compartment and a battery interlocking system. The battery compartment may define at least a first battery area and a second battery area, the first battery area configured to receive a first battery and the second battery area configured to receive a second battery. The battery interlocking system may include a first interlock mechanism including a first locking portion and a first selector. The first locking portion may be configured to move between a locking position and a non-locking position, the locking position substantially preventing removal of the first battery from the first battery area, and the non-locking position not preventing removal of the first battery from the first battery area. The first selector may be configured to move the first locking portion from the locking position to the non-locking position in response to the second battery being received in the second battery area.

  • Publication number: 20080078396
Abstract: A method for fabricating a facial seal for use in a breathing assistance system is provided. The method includes capturing one or more images of a patient's face. The method further includes translating the one or more images into a set of data representing a three-dimensional structure of at least a portion of the patient's face and fabricating a facial seal to substantially conform to the patient's face based at least on the set of data, including fabricating at least a portion of the facial seal using rapid prototyping or a subtractive manufacturing technique. A method for selecting a facial seal for a breathing assistance system is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080066755
Abstract: An adjustable mask apparatus for use in a breathing assistance system may include a housing, an adjustment arm, and a locking member. The housing may support a cushion configured to provide a seal against a patient's face. The adjustment arm may include a first end configured for attachment to a head gear, and a second end rotatably coupled to the housing to allow rotation of the adjustment arm to adjust a distance between the first end of the adjustment arm and the patient's head. The locking member may be coupled to the housing and may be configured to secure the adjustment arm in one of a plurality of predetermined rotational positions, each predetermined rotational position comprising a rotational position of the adjustment arm with respect to the housing.

  • Publication number: 20080053450
Abstract: A patient interface for a breathing assistance system may include a facial seal releasably coupled to a seal support. The seal support may include an opening and a first connection portion extending at least substantially around the opening. The facial seal may include a first side having a first seal opening and configured to provide a seal against a patient's face, a second side having a second seal opening, and a passageway extending between the first and second seal openings for delivering breathing gas to the patient. The facial seal may further include a second connection portion extending at least substantially around the second seal opening. The second connection portion may be deformed to mate with the first connection portion to releasably couple the facial seal to the seal support and to form a seal between the facial seal and the seal support.

  • Patent number: 5376163
Abstract: A method and system are described for preventing flooding of a gas analyzer of the type wherein a pump conveys gas to be analyzed to a sample cell and a filter separates water from the gas flowing to the pump. The presence of excess liquid in the system is sensed by a pressure transducer which decouples the output of the pump from the sample cell and feeds it back to the filter. This results in an increase in pressure in the filter to prevent excess liquid from flooding the gas analyzer. The pressure is so held until the excess liquid passes from the filter system, after which the system returns to normal operation.
