  • Publication number: 20220248239
Abstract: A method for user association, i.e., user equipment-base station, UE-BS, association, in a cellular network is specifically designed for user association, for instance in 5G mmWave cellular networks. The method is based on the rational that network throughput may be low because of the weakest UE suffering from a weak direct link or high interference from other BSs in the network. Thus, swapping the worst UE-BS connection is likely to provide the UE a stronger link, i.e. a better connection to another BS, and/or reduce the interference, which consequently improves the throughput. An optional approach is based on matching theory, which uses preference lists maintained at the BSs and UEs.

  • Patent number: 10447358
Abstract: A multipath communication system forms a complex weighted compound signal for transmission through a channel environment wherein the compound signal includes a complex variable weighted compound signal related to a count of available antennas, a power constraint related to each said antenna, and a channel state characteristic.

  • Patent number: 10212424
Abstract: An approach to communication of a quantized value includes communicating one or more parameters characterizing a distribution of the values, and then repeatedly quantizing values according to the distribution and communicating the transmitted values. In some examples, the quantizing of the values is according to a maximum-entropy codebook determined from the distribution (or from the parameters characterizing the distribution). In one application, a network communication method communicates link state values among nodes of the network using this approach to communication of quantized values. For example, link state information is distributed among nodes of the network by distributing parameters characterizing distributions of the link state values for particular links, and quantizing the link state values according to codebooks determined from the parameters. In some examples, the parameters characterizing the distributions are distributed less frequently than the quantized values.

  • Publication number: 20060039497
Abstract: A method, processor and system for linear preceding for a multiple-input communication channel described in terms of an effective mean and an effective correlation is provided. The effective mean and correlation can be the sample mean and correlation of the channel, or they can also include an estimate of the channel and a quality parameter of the estimate. The precode is derived by minimizing a Chernoff bound on the pairwise error probability. It is assumed the channel code is a matrix block code, which includes spatial multiplexing and space-time block codes (STBCs) as special cases. In some cases (e.g., an orthogonal STBC) the codeword separation matrix is a scaled identity matrix. In these cases, the precode that minimizes the Chernoff bound can be determined analytically. It may be necessary to perform a “dynamic water-filling” procedure in order to satisfy constraints on the optimization. In other cases, the codeword separation matrix is not a scaled identity matrix.
