Patent number: 11427169Abstract: Various examples of a controller, method and system for determining positions of a tractor-trailer vehicle train are disclosed. In one example a tractor controller is manually-initiated or a user-initiated tractor controller and includes an electrical control port for receiving an electrical start signal, and a communications port for receiving data. A processing unit of the tractor controller includes control logic and is in communication with the electrical control port. The control logic is capable of receiving, in response to the electrical start signal, a data signal at the communications port which includes a GPS signal and a unique identification which corresponds to the towed vehicle. At a predetermined response time, the tractor controller determines the position of the towed vehicle in the tractor-trailer vehicle train based on the data received from the towed vehicles.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2020Date of Patent: August 30, 2022Assignee: BENDIX COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SYSTEMS LLCInventors: John V Ripley, Majed M Hamdan

Publication number: 20140200761Abstract: A brake chamber includes a housing defining a service air brake volume. A diaphragm is associated with a plate that is movably secured within the housing. The diaphragm divides the service air brake volume into a pressure portion and a non.-pressure portion. Respective volumes of the pressure portion and the non-pressure portion change as the diaphragm moves within the housing. A sensor is in the service air brake volume. Electronics, associated with the sensor, determine a position of the plate in the housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2013Publication date: July 17, 2014Applicant: BENDIX COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SYSTEMS LLCInventor: Majed M. Patent number: 8467950Abstract: A motor controller unit facilitates modifying pressure thresholds and motor operation mode for an air compressor in a hybrid commercial vehicle as a function of vehicle air demand and comprises a processor configured to execute computer-executable instructions comprising monitoring vehicle air system pressure, calculating air demand generated by the vehicle air system, and determining that the vehicle air system air demand is greater than a predetermined air demand threshold. A cut-out pressure threshold for the compressor motor is increased and the air compressor motor is switched from an on/off mode to a continuous run mode wherein pressure is maintained in the air system to be between a cut-in pressure threshold and the increased cut-out pressure threshold. The compressor motor operates in the continuous run mode until air demand falls below the predetermined air demand threshold.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2012Date of Patent: June 18, 2013Assignee: Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLCInventors: David J. Pfefferl, Mark A. Matko, Majed M. Hamdan

Patent number: 7251549Abstract: A receiver capable of receiving a remote vehicle stop request signal is mounted to a commercial vehicle and connected to the vehicle antilock braking ECU by a vehicle communication bus. The receiver may also be capable of transmitting a signal, thereby allowing the desired vehicle to be isolated. Furthermore, a user input device may be mounted to the vehicle that allows manual input of a park signal. When the park signal has been received by the vehicle ECU, the vehicle braking system is employed, thereby preventing the movement of the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2003Date of Patent: July 31, 2007Assignee: Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, LLCInventors: Thomas J. Weed, Kenneth A. Grolle, Joseph M. Macnamara, Kirit A. Thakkar, Majed M. Hamdan

Patent number: 5081702Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing two high speed signals through a single high speed input terminal of a microprocessor uses a multiplexing circuit connected between the signal conditioners from the wheel speed sensor and the microprocessor. The multiplexing circuit converts the square wave signal as generated by the signal conditioning circuits into a series of interrupts. The multiplexing circuit includes three hardware semaphores or flip-flops which are set by the interrupts generated from wheel speed signals. The semaphores or flip-flops are reset by the microprocessor.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1989Date of Patent: January 14, 1992Assignee: Allied-Signal Inc.Inventor: Majed M. Hamdan
