    Abstract: A rollback can be performed after completing an upgrade to components of a virtualized computing environment. When the upgrade is performed, an upgrade bundle having rollback scripts is provided to edges, hosts, and managers in the virtualized computing environment that are to be upgraded. When a rollback is to be performed, the rollback scripts are executed, and the components are rolled back in a reverse order relative to their upgrade order. Data and configuration checking are performed to validate the results of the rollback.

    Abstract: A method of upgrading nodes of a network virtualization platform is provided. The method receives a definition of an upgrade plan to upgrade a group of upgrade units. Each upgrade unit includes a set of nodes of the network virtualization platform. The plan groups sets of upgrade units into one or more upgrade groups and specifies a set of parameters for upgrading each upgrade unit. The method sends upgrade instructions to each upgrade unit to trigger upgrade for the upgrade unit. The method receives upgrade status from the upgrade units. The method aggregates and displays the status for the upgrade units of each upgrade group. When upgrade is in paused state, the method allows modifications to the upgrade plan. The method re-computes the upgrade plan before starting or resuming the upgrade. The upgrade plan is persisted by storing a portion of the upgrade plan needed to re-compute the upgrade plan.

    Abstract: Various embodiments of a system and method for restoring a data volume to a client computer system from a backup image are disclosed. A backup image at a remote backup server computer system may first be selected as a data source for the volume. The volume may be “instantly restored” on the client computer system without first requiring all of the data in the remote backup image to be transmitted from the backup server computer system. Instead, a lazy restore technique may be used where volume data is retrieved from the backup image on the backup server computer system as needed. Further embodiments of the system and method may enable the data source for the volume to be switched from the remote backup server computer system to a local data source at a later time.
