Abstract: There is provided a movie recommendation system, including: a scene metadata obtaining module for obtaining metadata which contains keywords associated with scenes, and time axis information indicating times at which the keywords appear, the scenes included in a movie content; a movie content information obtaining module for obtaining information of a movie content to be reproduced by a user; a contents preference information obtaining module for obtaining contents preference information, which is generated by assigning preference of the user to the keywords that are contained in the obtained metadata, based on the obtained information of the movie content; and a scene recommendation module for outputting at least one keyword preferred by the user from among the keywords contained in the movie content, based on the obtained contents preference information, in association with a scene recommended to the user.

Abstract: A recording condition and a dubbing condition of a desired program that is to be broadcast are designated by using a remote controller. These conditions are stored in the information storage unit. In accordance with the recording condition, a controller permits a tuner to receive a program for which unattended recording is designated, and to record the program on an HDD. When a DVD is set in a dubbing unit and the dubbing operation is instructed by using the remote controller, a recorded program for which a dubbing condition stored in the information storage unit is applied can be dubbed. Then, the information for this program is displayed on a monitor so as to confirm the program and the dubbing condition, and to examine or correct CM skip if the CM skip is included in the dubbing condition. Thereafter, the dubbing operation is performed.

Abstract: Disclosed is an image display device that provides power consumption reduction control in an improved manner. The image display device includes an input that inputs a video signal, an output controller that reproduces the video signal entered into the input, a display that displays an image in accordance with the video signal reproduced by the output controller, an imager that picks up an image of a user of the image display device, an attentiveness decider that analyzes the image picked up by the imager and judges whether the user is watching a display screen of the display, and a controller that selects either a normal mode or a power saving mode as a processing mode for light intensity control of a light source of the display or for reproduction in the output controller in accordance with the result of decision made by the attentiveness decider.

Abstract: A movie data indexing apparatus of the present invention comprises a movie data scene character data input processing unit, a movie data genre decision processing unit, a formatted phrase keyword dictionary input processing unit for inputting a formatted phrase keyword dictionary inherent to the determined movie data genre, a movie data information input processing unit, a movie data inherent dictionary generation processing unit for generating a dictionary inherent to the movie data, a scene character string coding processing unit for encoding a character string for a scene of the movie data, a proposal keyword dictionary for formatted phrase input processing unit for inputting a dictionary prescribing keywords, and a scene indexing processing unit for performing indexing to a scene of the movie data on the basis of the scene character string coded data, the movie data inherent dictionary and the proposal keyword dictionary for formatted phrase.

Abstract: In a video recorder, closed caption sentence data is outputted by analyzing digital broadcasting data including closed caption information. Index data is generated on the basis of a feature extraction rule and the effectiveness of an appearing keyword by analyzing closed caption sentence data. Closed caption feature data including a type of a closed caption sentence and a display time is generated by analyzing a closed caption ES (Elementary Stream). The broadcasting data is stored as record data, the closed caption feature data is analyzed, chapter data for reproducing a program is generated by a chapter designated by the user, and the chapter data is outputted to a storage. In the case of recording and reproducing the digital broadcasting program, it is possible to perform both the reproduction by the optimal index using the closed caption and the reproduction by the keyword voluntarily inputted by the user.

Abstract: A chaptering apparatus and method for movie data to set chapter points at more appropriate points in the movie data are disclosed. The apparatus includes a unit for acquiring the subtitle data from the movie data and a unit for chaptering the movie data. The chaptering unit detects sections designated not to display text data in the subtitle data for predetermined time or longer, based on the subtitle data acquired by the subtitle data acquisition unit, and sets, as chapter starting points, ending points of sections designated not to display text data in the subtitle data for predetermined time or longer.

Abstract: A broadcast receiving apparatus includes a tuner unit, a display unit on which a program picture is displayed, an input unit including multiple channel operational buttons, and a control unit that controls these units in a centralized manner. When any of the channel operational buttons is touched, the input unit generates a first operational signal. When the channel operational button is depressed, the input unit generates a second operational signal. When the control unit detects the first operational signal during display of the program picture on the display unit, the control unit displays, on the display unit, program information signified by the first operational signal together with the program picture being displayed. When the control unit detects the second operational signal after detecting the first operational signal, the control unit switches the program picture being displayed to a program picture signified by the second operational signal.

A digital broadcast receiver receives digital broadcasts and processes data contained in the broadcasts to display program videos. The digital broadcast receiver includes: a tuner part having a first tuner and a second tuner; a display part; an input part; and a control part. The input part generates a first operation signal when operation buttons are touched, and generates a second operation signal when the operation buttons are pushed. The control part starts the reception of a program corresponding to the first operation signal by the second tuner when detecting the first operation signal during the display of a program video being received over the first tuner, and when detecting the second operation signal, switches to the display of a program video being received over the second tuner.

Abstract: A rear projection type image display apparatus having an arrangement that a projection distance of a projection lens thereof is shortened and a density of mounting of parts relating to an optical system and an electric system is made higher. Furthermore, a width of a rear portion of a housing of the rear projection type image display apparatus is reduced rearwards at any position from the upper portion to the lower portion thereof, and the lower portion of a back cover is depressed inwards.
