    Abstract: In a state in which wireless communication with a wireless operation device is disconnected, an instruction cannot be issued from the wireless operation device to an image forming apparatus main body. Thus, if the image forming apparatus main body enters a sleep mode, for example, an instruction for shifting the image forming apparatus main body from the sleep mode to a standby mode cannot be issued from the wireless operation device. In standby mode, a power source is controlled to supply power to an image forming unit and a wireless communication unit; in light sleep mode, the power source is caused not to supply power to the image forming unit and supply power to the wireless communication unit; and in deep sleep mode, the power source is caused not to supply power to the image forming unit and the wireless communication unit.

When a copying machine 200 is in a sleep mode, it is detected whether or not a user has come near to the copying machine 200. If a contactless IC 600 is present within the range of radio wave signals emitted from an IC tag reader/writer 500, it is determined that a user has come near because the communication between the contactless IC 600 and the IC tag reader/write 500 can be carried out. Reading of data from the contactless IC 600 is started, and user authentication is executed based on the data. If, as a result of the user authentication, the user is a licensed user, it is determined whether or not an original document has been set on an automatic feeder 800.

    Abstract: An image reading method for an image recording system which reads an image with an image reader in the form of photoelectric signal conversion devices, converts the resulting analog data into digital data, and prints out the digital data with a printer. One line of image is read a plurality of times by the image reader and the resulting image data are sequentially stored. Even when the image data storing time and a fixed one-line scanning period are different from each other, the image can be read and outputted without changing the quantity of light to be applied to the image reader, i.e., simply by compensating for the difference between the storing time and the fixed scanning time.
