  • Patent number: 5538587
Abstract: A device for connecting a trailing end of a previously drawn-out web from a first web roll to a leading end portion of a newly drawn-out web from a second web roll has a vertical guide unit, a drawing-out unit, a feeding unit, an adhesive tape supplying unit and cutting members. The previously drawn-out web which is running vertically downward is guided by the vertical guide unit. The leading end portion of a web is drawn out from a new web roll by the drawing-out unit and moved vertically downward by the feeding unit in the vicinity of and along the previously drawn-out web. An adhesive tape is attached to the leading end portion of the newly drawn-out web by the adhesive tape supplying unit. The leading end of the newly drawn-out web is connected to the trailing end of the previously drawn-out web by the adhesive tape. After the previously and newly drawn-out webs have been connected together, the excess portions of both webs are removed by the cutting members.

  • Patent number: 5397424
Abstract: An apparatus has first and second loading means, and first and second rolls each obtained by winding a strip-like material are loaded on the first and second loading means. A detection means detects an end indication tape adhered to a trailing end portion of the strip-like material of the roll. A cutting/unrolling means automatically unrolls the strip-like material from the roll, and cuts the leading and trailing end portions of the strip-like material to form the leading and trailing ends. The unrolled strip-like material is guided along a predetermined path by a guide means. A joining station is arranged midway along the guide path. One strip-like material is fed through the joining station by a feeding means, and the leading end portion of the other strip-like material is stopped and stands by at the joining station.

  • Patent number: 5381983
Abstract: An apparatus for drawing out the leading end portion of the web from a web roll is provided with hubs rotatable in a vertical plane, and a drawing-out arm provided under the web roll, rotatable in a vertical plane and having a distal end portion abutting against the lowest portion of the web on the web roll. On the distal end portion of the drawing-out arm are provided a sucking unit for sucking the lowest portion of the web on the web roll, a leading end portion detector for detecting the leading end portion of the web and a chuck for holding the leading end portion of the web. The leading end portion of the web is separated under its own weight and a negative pressure from the body of the portion of the web, detected by the leading end portion detector and held by the chuck so as to be pulled out.

  • Patent number: 5285978
Abstract: An automatic web roll changing device is adapted to automatically and continuously supply web rolls to a web supply-connection apparatus on which are replaceably mounted two web rolls from which webs are alternately and continuously drawn out and which connects the trailing end portion of the preceding web to the leading end portion of the following web. This device includes a rotary arm pivoted to the web supply-connection apparatus having, at both ends, hubs carrying the above-mentioned two web rolls, and a web roll storage-mounting unit provided opposite to the web supply-connection apparatus. The web supply-connection apparatus has a rotary head which is rotatable about a vertical axis. From the rotary head horizontally extend a plurality of web roll storing shafts for holding a plurality of web rolls so as to be slidable axially of the shafts. The web rolls on the storing shafts are moved toward the distal ends of the web roll storing shaft by driving units so as to be mounted on the hubs.

  • Patent number: 5238522
Abstract: A device for joining a leading end of a new second strip-like material to a trailing end of a supplied first strip-like material is disclosed. This device includes a joining preparation path. A stamper base is arranged midway along the joining preparation path. The first and second strip-like materials are fed to the joining preparation path by first and second feed mechanisms, respectively. The first strip-like material passes through the stamper base, and is supplied to the next process by a convey mechanism. The leading end of the second strip-like material is aligned with a predetermined position of the stamper base, and is held in position. The device includes a stamper for holding a joining tape piece by suction.

  • Patent number: 5096134
Abstract: A device for unrolling a leading end portion of a strip-like material from a roll formed by winding the strip-like material and cutting a predetermined portion of the leading end portion is disclosed. A chuck head is arranged below the roll loaded on a loading shaft. The chuck head is supported by a parallel link mechanism to be movable while keeping its horizontal position. The chuck head is moved upward to peel the leading end portion of the strip-like material from the peripheral surface of the roll. The strip-like material is unrolled by base and pinch feed rollers. A predetermined portion of the leading end portion of the drawn strip-like material is cut by a cutter unit. The cut unnecessary portion of the leading end portion of the strip-like material is exhausted.

  • Patent number: 4984750
Abstract: A method an apparatus for replacing reels of web-like material having a paper-end gripping arm having an attraction surface and a keep pawl. A peeling member peels of a bonded end portion of the material and the material is delivered along a transport path where it is held and the bonded end portion is cut off. The cut end portion is then removed from the transport path. Two reels are supported on reel holding portions and are alternately fed to the transport path. The end portion is bonded to the reel by boring a hole in the end portion, attaching tape to the outer surface in the area of the hole and pressing the tape inwardly so that it extends through the hole and is bonded to the outer surface of the material beneath the hole.
