  • Patent number: 6889617
Abstract: Disclosed is a collision energy absorbing structure of a vehicle capable of relieving impact by using a tubular pipe member having equally-sized rectangular cross section and equal plate thickness and including no inside ribs and by adding a suitable trigger, and being easily manufactured at a low cost. By forming a cutout portion on the left side of the front end portion of the collision energy absorbing structure, the deformation starting portion is provided. The cutout portion is formed at parts of three flat plate portions comprised of one of the four flat plate portions and corresponding opposite portions thereof. The general portion, which follows the deformation starting portion, is tubular with rectangular cross section and has a closed cross-section structure.

  • Patent number: 6871903
Abstract: A side structure included in a railroad car is provided with an window opening, and door openings formed on the longitudinally opposite sides of the window opening, respectively. The side structure excluding parts corresponding to the window opening and the door openings are divided into a plurality of sections. A first section extends vertically between the window opening and the door opening, a second section extends vertically between the window opening and the door opening, and a third section of a width substantially equal to that of the window opening extends under the window opening. Each of the sections has a core attached to the inner surface of an outer panel, and rim members having a substantially Z-shaped cross section and surround the core. An inner panel is attached to the core and the rim members so as to cover the inner surface of the core.

  • Publication number: 20040168998
Abstract: In energy absorbing structures in an entire train, a compression amount at an interface between cars at an end portion of a train is reduced and compression at an interface between cars at a center portion of the train is facilitated. In the structure, a plurality of cars (A1 to A12) are coupled to one another through couplers (B1 to B11), and energy absorbing structures (S12 to S42, S82 to S122) are provided between cars. An average compressive load corresponding to a value obtained by dividing an energy absorption amount of the energy absorbing structure by a maximum compression amount of the energy absorbing structures (S12 to S42, S82 to S122) is set smaller at an interface between cars at a center portion of the train than at an interface between cars on an outer side of the train (closer to an end portion).

Abstract: A side structure (21) included in a railroad car is provided with an window opening (22), and door openings (23, 24) formed on the longitudinally opposite sides of the window opening (22), respectively. The side structure (21) excluding parts corresponding to the window opening (22) and the door openings (23, 24) are divided into a plurality of sections. A first section (S1)1 extends vertically between the window opening (22) and the door opening (23), a second section (S12) extends vertically between the window opening (22) and the door opening (24), and a third section (S13) of a width substantially equal to that of the window opening (22) extends under the window opening (22). Each of the sections has a core (2) attached to the inner surface of an outer panel (1), and rim members (3) having a substantially Z-shaped cross section and surrounding the core (2). An inner panel (4) is attached to the core (2) and the rim members (3) so as to cover the inner surface of the core (2).

  • Patent number: 6280003
Abstract: It is an object of this invention to provide a method for when and on which wheel to initiate braking force distribution. In a brake hydraulic device for a motor vehicle, a rear wheel subject to control is an inner or outer wheel is checked; if the outer wheel is to be controlled, deceleration threshold value is increased according to the lateral acceleration, and if the absolute value of the vehicle deceleration exceeds the deceleration threshold value, the braking distribution control is operated on the rear wheel; and if the inner wheel is to be controlled, deceleration threshold value is decreased according to the lateral acceleration, and if the absolute value of vehicle deceleration exceeds the deceleration threshold value, the braking distribution control is operated on the rear wheel.

  • Patent number: 6263805
Abstract: There is provided a vehicle end sill or the like, in which lap joints formed by one side lap welding are not simply deformed or broken off. An end sill 1 is formed as a box type structural body which includes lap joints W1 which are formed by one side lap welding conducted only from the outer side. Edge portions 12a and 13a of face plates 12, 13 to be superposed on the surfaces 11a and 11b of the end member (intermediate member) 11 are formed as a zigzag shape. The end member has the longitudinal axis substantially perpendicular to the direction along which the load is adapted to be applied to the end sill 1. Lap welding (one side welding conducted only from the outer side) is conducted along the edge portion 12a and 13a of the zigzag shape.
