The electrical cable includes a non-conductive buffer layer surrounding the conductor assemblies having an inner surface engaging the insulators and a conductive shield layer engaging and surrounding an outer surface of the non-conductive buffer layer and providing electrical shielding for the conductor assemblies. An outer jacket engages and surrounds the conductive shield layer.

The array connector also includes communication lines that are disposed within corresponding channels of the connector body such that the communication lines extend along the interfaces. The communication lines are at least one of wire conductors or optical fibers. The communication lines have respective mating terminals that are positioned proximate to the mating side and form a terminal array.

The core is removed from the sheath to insert the cable component into the sheath. The resulting assembly has intermediate portions of the cable component that are loosely received within the shield and sheath.
