Abstract: A method for evaluating a number of prescription drug health care plans includes the steps of providing a device for scanning the label of each of a patient's prescription labels, and extracting the data from the labels into a digital format. The digitized prescription label data is then entered into a database including prescription drug health care plans and total out-of-pocket cost to the patient is calculated for each health care plan in the database based upon the costs associated with each plan in view of that particular patient's prescription drug needs.
