Abstract: A vaginal speculum may include a vaginal assembly with at least two longitudinal separating elements connected at a distal end for insertion into the vagina of a subject. The vaginal speculum is configured for holding the vaginal walls of the subject apart, thereby permitting examination and/or suturing of at least the posterior part of the vaginal tissue. A set of vaginal specula may be provided in predefined sizes such that the specula suitably fit a range of anatomies. A method is described for providing an unobstructed view of at least the posterior part of the vaginal wall during suturing of a subject after the subject has given birth.
