  • Patent number: 9878933
Abstract: One aspect relates to a method for the manufacture of doped quartz glass. Moreover, one aspect relates to quartz glass obtainable according to the method including providing a soot body, treating the soot body with a gas, heating an intermediate product and vitrifying an intermediate product.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 21, 2015
Date of Patent: January 30, 2018
Assignee: Heraeus Quarzglas GmbH & Co. KG

  • Publication number: 20160289116
Abstract: The invention describes a method for the manufacture of quartz glass that comprises not only doping with rare earth elements and/or transition metals, but also fluorination of the quartz glass. The method described presently allows the diffusion of the dopants during fluorination to be prevented. Moreover, the invention relates to the quartz glass that can be obtained according to the method according to the invention and the use thereof as laser-active quartz glass, for generating light-guiding structures, and in optical applications.

  • Publication number: 20150143851
Abstract: The following method steps are known for producing cylindrical components from synthetic quartz glass containing fluorine: producing a SiO2 soot body, removing hydroxyl groups from the soot body, loading the soot body with fluorine, post-chlorinating the soot body loaded with fluorine, and vitrifying the soot body to form the cylindrical component.

  • Publication number: 20050247080
Abstract: A conventional method for the production of a quartz glass blank comprises a method step in which SiO2 particles are generated by means of a series of deposition burners and deposited on a cylinder outer surface of a support, rotating about the longitudinal axis thereof to form a cylindrical porous SiO2 soot body. The surface temperature of the forming soot body is altered by means of a temperature adjustment body. According to the invention, the above may be developed to give an economical method for the production of an SiO2 soot body with low axial thickness variations and to provide a device of simple construction of the same, whereby the temperature adjustment body is applied in the form of a planar element running along a significant part of the SiO2 soot body, which either acts on the soot body surface as a temperature-screening homogeneous heat sink or as a homogeneous reflector for temperature raising, by means of heat radiation.
