Abstract: Provided is an electronic pen including an electronic pen main part including a first sealing member that covers circumference of a tip side of the electronic pen main part and a second sealing member disposed along an outer edge of the electronic pen main part at a position separate from a tip toward a rear end side of the electronic pen main part, and an inside body that is tubular and has an inner wall surface with which the first sealing member and the second sealing member come into contact through insertion of the tip side of the electronic pen main part into the inside body.

Abstract: A novel plasmid, named pSAN 181, has a molecular weight of 5.+-.0.2 megadaltons and single cleavage sites for each of the restriction endonucleases BamHI, PstI, XhoI and BglII, the positions of said sites being 0, about 0.85, about 1.15 and about 3.95 megadaltons from the cleavage site of BamHI. The plasmid is extracted from mycelia of microorganisms of the species Streptomyces fulvoviridis, especially the strain Streptomyces fulvoviridis FERM P-6279, and is useful as a vector for genetic engineering.

Abstract: Macrolide antibiotics are derivatives of the compound Mycoplanecin and have the formula: ##STR1## (in which R represents a hydrogen atom or an N-(.alpha.-hydroxybutyryl)-N-methylvalyl group). The compound in which R represents an N-(.alpha.-hydroxybutyryl)-N-methylvalyl group can be prepared by reducing Mycoplanecin and the compound in which R represents a hydrogen atom can be prepared by the hydrolysis of Mycoplanecin or of the compound of formula (I) in which R represents an N-(.alpha.-hydroxybutyryl)-N-methylvalyl group.

Abstract: New antibiotic substances named substance No. 17927A.sub.2 and substance No. 17927A.sub.1 produced by cultivation of substances No. 17927A.sub.2 and No. 17927A.sub.1 -producing microorganisms belonging to the genus Streptomyces as well as pharmaceutically-acceptable salts thereof. They have broad antibacterial activities and also .beta.-lactamase inhibitory action so that they show synergistic actions with known penicillins and cephalosporins.
