    Abstract: An image recording and reproducing apparatus for recording and reproducing a multiple picture signal obtained by multiplexing picture signals from a plurality of cameras via a frame switcher, the image recording and reproducing apparatus performing high-accuracy fast-forwarding of a prerecorded image from a specific camera and allowing easy retrieval of a target image. The image recording and reproducing apparatus has a skip reproduction feature for alternating skipping of n frames and continuous reproduction of m frames. m is set to a number related to the frame switching pattern. In case n=4 and m=3, four frames are skipped after reproduction of Frame A1. Then Frames C6, A7, B8 are continuously reproduced. Thus, the images displayed on the monitor are A1, A7, and A13.

    Abstract: Monitor camera units, a data storing unit, a control server, and a monitor display are coupled by a network. The monitor camera unit includes a motion detector for detecting motion from video data, a microphone, a traffic monitor, a memory for storing the video data, and a sensor signal input circuit. The traffic monitor monitors the traffic of the network. If the traffic is high, only necessary data or sound data is transmitted. The memory stores the video data in response to the motion detector and a thinning circuit thins the video data from the memory in response to a sensor signal. The control server receives the alarm data from the monitor camera and further receives the alarm type data, time data, position data of a pivoting unit for pivoting the camera unit and transmits the data to the display terminal. In the presence of a loud sound, alarm data is also generated but it is not sent if a switch is OFF. The control server includes a data base storing set of alarm data.

    Abstract: When a video input (image data) sequentially fetched from a monitor camera is to be stored in data storage means, frame rate calculating means calculates a frame rate for storage of the image data by using a picture recording time mode, a residual capacity of the data storage means, the presence of generation of an alarm signal and a value of a picture quality parameter for data compression. The frame rate calculating means thins a video signal which does not correspond to the frame rate so as not to be stored in the data storage means. Consequently, image data for a predetermined time are stored in the data storage means.
