  • Patent number: 6069698
Abstract: A low coherence beam emitted by a low coherence light source is split into two portions. One portion is transmitted from the outward end of a first single mode fiber via a detachable connector to a beam scanning probe, and then to a biological tissue; and the other is transmitted from an optical coupler placed midway along the light path via a second single mode fiber to a light path modifier. The light path modifier includes a galvanometer mirror to modify the light path length in accordance with a scan range, and a uniaxial stage to adjust the light path length to absorb the variation in lengths of different beam scanning probes. The light path is adjusted by the uniaxial stage such that the beam interference is detected for the scan range, to ensure stable acquisition of tomographic images.

  • Patent number: 5904725
Abstract: A local positioning device detects a local position of an automobile advancing along a lane formed on a road in a direction. A digital image data indicative of an advancing direction view observed from the automobile in the advancing direction is applied to the local position device. An edge extractor, a threshold generator, and a contour extractor are operable for extracting a contour data indicative of the lane from the image signal. A coordinate convertor converts the contour data into a plane view data indicating the dimensions of extracted contours correctly. A matching operator matches a line or an arc with each of extracted contour. A lane mark contour extractor selectively extracts a pair of extracted contours corresponding to the lane on which the automobile is located.

  • Patent number: 5386819
Abstract: In the method and apparatus for inhibiting a scattered component in a light having passed through the interior of an examined object, a light is radiated to the examined object, the sum of a straight advancing light component and scattered light component of the light having passed through the interior of the examined object is detected, only the scattered light component of the light having passed through the interior of the examined object is detected and the straight advancing light component is detected by an operation using the two detected outputs. In the scattered component inhibiting method and apparatus, a light modulated with a period larger than the delay of the propagating time by the scatter in the examined object is radiated to the examined object, the light having passed through the interior of the examined object is detected and the straight advancing light component is extracted by extracting a predetermined phase of the detected output.

  • Patent number: 5305759
Abstract: A photo-pulse from a photo-pulse generating apparatus is branched, where one branch is radiated to an examined body and the reflected light reflected within the examined body is delayed in time in proportion to the depth from the surface of the examined body and is led to a time-analyzing reflected light measuring apparatus. In this measuring apparatus, the other branched reference photo-pulse or reference signal pulse is input as delayed by the time for which the photo-pulse reflected within the examined body returns and only the reflected light component synchronized with the entering timing of this reference light pulse is analyzed in the time and is detected. By varying the detection sensitivity of this measuring apparatus in response to the depth from the surface of the examined body, the interior can be observed.
