  • Patent number: 8736500
Abstract: An antenna apparatus that has a base and an antenna element with a balanced RF output, which receives RF signals within a first band of frequencies. The apparatus includes a mount engaged with the base that rotatably supports the antenna about an axis of rotation. The apparatus has a balun with a balanced RF input and an unbalanced RF output. A feed line is coupled between the balanced RF output and the balanced RF input. The feed line includes two electrical conductors that have a predetermined length and that are aligned substantially in parallel, and supportively spaced apart a predetermined distance by plural insulators. The feed line is further arranged to maintain the predetermined distance between the two electrical conductors as the antenna element rotates with respect to the base.

  • Patent number: 7813449
Abstract: An antenna system for receiving radio waves and for operation in conjunction with a remote controller that transmits control data including gain state data. The antenna system includes an antenna that receives the radio waves and outputs a radio frequency signal and a radio frequency amplifier coupled to receive and amplify the radio frequency signal to a gain level controlled through a gain control input. A remote control receiver receives the control data and a controller is coupled to the gain control input and the remote control receiver. The controller couples the gain state data to the gain control input, thereby remotely controlling the gain level of the radio frequency amplifier. A remotely controlled antenna rotor is also taught.

  • Patent number: 7706851
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for companding communication data. Companding is provided for a two-way radio communication station operable pursuant to a coded squelch scheme, such as an MURS or FRS radio. A baseband processor invokes compression operations upon originating communication data that is originated at the communication station. And, the processor invokes operation of expansion operations when the communication data comprises terminating data.

  • Patent number: 7435141
Abstract: Connector apparatus, and an associated method, by which to apply electrical power to a set of consumer electronic devices, such as a laptop computer and a mobile phone, or other portable device. The connector includes an input port to which a source of input power is applied, such as the electrical power provided by way of a power cable of the laptop computer, once suitably connected to a source of permanent electric power. The connector apparatus includes a set of output ports, a first port of which is connectable to the laptop computer and a second port of which is connectable to the other portable electronic device. A user of the consumer electronic devices is able thereby to power both of the devices with connection of only a single power cable to a permanent power supply source.

  • Publication number: 20060256822
Abstract: An apparatus for synchronizing the initiation of the playback of packetized multimedia data received asynchronously in each receiver in a system, and for synchronizing the real time playback in a plurality of receivers in the system, from the transmitter over a wired communications medium. The clocks in the transmitter encoder and the receiver decoders operate asynchronously but at substantially the same rate. Initiation of playback is synchronized according to the arrival time of a first received data packet having a zero-valued retransmit number. Real time playback among a plurality of receivers is synchronized according to a measured time difference between an operating rate of the encoder and an operating rate of the decoder.

  • Publication number: 20060256792
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for synchronizing both the initiation of playback of digital multimedia data in one or more receivers and the rate of playback of the digital multimedia data in the one or more receivers, all receiving the digital multimedia data from a single transmitter, without transmitting clock or timing signals to the receiver(s). An exemplary embodiment is described using the AC powerline as a medium of transmission, although the method and apparatus are adaptable to a variety of communication media.

  • Patent number: 7130600
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating personalization of a weather band radio that receives SAME messages broadcast by the NWR system. Alphanumeric indicators of locations are displayed upon a user display element. And, a listener of the radio enters, by way of a user input actuator, selection of selected geographical areas, identified by the alphanumeric indicators. The selected alphanumeric location is used to form a six-digit location code defined by the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). And, the code so-formed is used by the weather band radio, selectably to alert weather anomalies broadcast by the NWR system within the selected geographical area of interest.

  • Patent number: 7101250
Abstract: Provided is a transmitter that includes a channel selector for modifying an operating frequency of a radio-controlled toy. The transmitter has a channel selection switch that enables a user to pick a channel from a set of predefined channels. The selected channel is then transferred to the toy. For example, a microcontroller unit within the transmitter may be used to detect the selected channel. The toy is placed in contact with the transmitter and the transmitter's microcontroller unit communicates the channel to a microcontroller unit inside the toy. The toy's microcontroller stores the channel in a memory in the toy. The toy then tunes to the stored frequency to receive control signals from the transmitter.
