  • Patent number: 6608605
Abstract: A helical antenna tuned to a first and a second resonant frequency is disclosed. The helical antenna includes an elongated conductor formed as a uniform spiral. The uniform spiral has a plurality of turns about a longitudinal axis. The plurality of turns has a predetermined pitch and the elongated conductor has a length which is approximately one-quarter of a wavelength of the first resonant frequency. The helical antenna further includes a first dielectric element and a second element. Both elements are coupled to the spiral to selectively tune the antenna to the second resonant frequency. A wireless communication device including the helical antenna is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20030018593
Abstract: An intelligent method is provided to interpret a user's intention whenever an on/off button is activated. The method uses one or several activities to gauge the likelihood of a user's intention to switch off the device when the on/off button is activated. Such activities include the presence of an active network connection and time lapsed since a last keyboard activity or a pointer activity. If the user is in the midst of certain tasks as defined by the activities, a user prompt will seek the user's confirmation to switch off the device. Otherwise, the device switches off without prompting the user.

  • Publication number: 20020183099
Abstract: A hybrid portable device utilizing separate display panels pre-assigned to respective operation mode for displaying associated information and selected cross-operation information is provided. The hybrid device typically provides mobile communication and PDA features. The device typically includes two display panels and a movable cover. The movable cover selectively overlays or exposes the display panels through a cut-away portion on the cover, or through an equivalent viewing means. The two display panels may be simultaneously visible to a user when the cover is flipped to expose a second display panel.

  • Patent number: 6448934
Abstract: An antenna is provided that is adapted to operate in multiple frequency bands. The antenna consists of a first antenna element for receiving and transmitting signals in a first frequency band, and a second antenna element for receiving and transmitting signals in a second frequency band. The first antenna element has a substantially elongated conductor of a predetermined first pitch, which is coupled to a feed point. The second antenna element has a substantially meandering coil of a predetermined second pitch, which is coupled to said feed point. The substantially meandering coil comprises a plurality of first portions having a wound form and surrounding at least partly said first antenna element, and also comprises a plurality of second portions having a straight form. The first portion extends from an upper end of said second portion to a lower end of a subsequent second portion following in axial direction of the second antenna element.
