Abstract: In a document processing apparatus, upon selection of document-name registration in a main menu, a document-name register frame comprising a document-name input area and a document-name display area is displayed on a display. When a character key is manipulated to input the first character of the document name, a document-name search processing control is executed and a predetermined number of document names are successively displayed, from a document name having at least the same first character as the input document name, on the first and subsequent lines of the document-name display area.

Abstract: A text processor is capable of creating table data based on numerical values and mathematical expressions entered through a keyboard, and displaying the data on a display screen. The text processor avoids unnecessary re-calculation of table data by a) allowing a user of the text processor to selectively inhibit automatic recalculation of mathematical expressions, b) recalculating only mathematical expressions whose operands and/or mathematical operators have been changed, and c) providing indication to the user as to which mathematical expressions have been changed and require recalculation.

Abstract: A document processing apparatus, such as English word processor, displays layouts of several pages of the documents on page basis in the respective rectangular layout display areas on a display together with format information including top margin, bottom margin, print line numbers in each page of the documents. When the layout display mode is selected, at least the layout of the page of the documents pointed out by a cursor when the document data has been displayed is displayed on one part of the display and the associated format information is displayed on another part of the display by, for example, line numbers.

Abstract: A menu displaying apparatus includes a display which has a menu display region for displaying a plurality of main items and at least one sub item, and a message display region for displaying various messages. Normally the sub massages are displayed within the menu display region, however, if the number of the sub items is larger than the available number of the lines of the menu display region, the apparatus enables the undisplayable sub item to be displayed in the message display region.

Abstract: A layout display control system for a document processing apparatus wherein dimensional information of a table is displayed together with the layout of a table to allow the user to recognize specific dimensions of the outer profile of the table when the layout of the table is displayed. Ruled-line data including vertical and horizontal ruled lines are inputted to assemble a table through movement of a cursor on a display. The inputted data is stored in a memory in association with the display positions on the display. When a layout of the table is to be displayed, the data is read out of the memory and is converted to layout data to display the layout of the table. To simultaneously display the dimensional information of the table, at least width and height of an outer profile of the table is calculated based on the data stored in the memory and the dimensions of the outer profile of the table is displayed with specific numerals.

Abstract: A dual screen control apparatus includes a display which has the capability to display a dual screen having a first display screen and a second display screen. One of the first display screen and the second display screen is a current screen in which a cursor is displayed and the other is a non-current screen. Setting information is displayed only on the current screen so as to enable discrimination of the current screen easily.
