  • Publication number: 20150378843
Abstract: In some implementations, blocks of raw image backup data are stored as part of a raw image backup of data in a file system. Blocks of raw image backup data are retrieved from a virtual volume by a restore device, to restore at least one file system object of the file system.

  • Publication number: 20150378833
Abstract: Methods for creating backup of data of a virtual environment to allow non-staged recovery are described. The described method may include receiving data of a virtual environment through one or more data streams for backup. The method also includes generating metadata corresponding to the received data and storing the received data at a first location of a backup storage unit. Further, the method includes storing the generated metadata at a second location of the backup storage unit, where the second location is different from the first location of the backup storage unit. The method further includes mapping the at least one predefined file to the stored data to create a mapping table to allow direct access to the stored data for non-staged recovery.

  • Publication number: 20150363274
Abstract: Techniques for storing backup data separate from catalog data are described in various implementations. An example method that implements the techniques may include receiving backup data that is to be backed up on a tape medium. The method may also include causing the backup data to be written to a first tape medium. The method may also include generating catalog data associated with the backup data, the catalog data including position information indicating where the backup data is stored on the first tape medium. The method may also include causing the catalog data to be written to a second tape medium that is different from the first tape medium.

  • Publication number: 20150193312
Abstract: Techniques for selecting a resource to be used in a data backup or restore operation are described in various implementations. An example method that implements the techniques may include determining, using a computing system, diagnostic information associated with a plurality of candidate resources that are available for use in a data backup or restore operation. The method may also include selecting, using the computing system, a recommended resource from among the plurality of candidate resources, the recommended resource being selected based at least in part on the diagnostic information. The method may also include causing the data backup or restore operation to be performed using the recommended resource.

  • Publication number: 20130238668
Abstract: An embodiment provides a system and method for implementing a scalable test environment. The method includes modeling, within a file system environment creator executing on a computing device, a structure of a file system used by an application and intercepting a system call from the application to the file system at the file system environment creator. The method also includes generating a content of the file system dynamically within the file system environment creator based on the system call and the structure of the file system.
