  • Patent number: 8495877
Abstract: The invention relates to an internal combustion engine having a turbocompound system. The turbocompound system encompasses an exhaust-gas turbocharger, a turbo intercooler, and a power turbine. The power turbine is connectable, via a transmission with clutch, to the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. A connectable compressor, which is couplable either to the power turbine or to the internal combustion engine, is received in a multiple-flow intake pipe.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 30, 2013
    Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbH
Inventors: Klaus Weyer, Manfred Dürnholz, Friedrich Wirbeleit, Hermann Hiereth

  • Publication number: 20100107604
Abstract: The invention relates to an ammonia generator (2, 66, 68), in particular for mobile applications, a vehicle (62) with such an ammonia generator (2, 66, 68) and a method for generating ammonia from a waste gas of a combustion process. It is proposed that the waste gas originates from a free-piston engine (2) which is operated with a fuel.

  • Patent number: 7640729
Abstract: A method for operating a particulate filter situated in an exhaust gas area of an internal combustion engine and a device for carrying out the method are described. A measure of the particulate matter burn-off rate is detected for influencing and/or monitoring the particulate matter burn-off rate or for influencing and/or monitoring the particulate filter temperature. A secondary air flow supplied by a secondary air pump is blown into the exhaust gas area upstream from the particulate filter. The secondary air flow is determined as a function of the detected measure of the particulate matter burn-off rate. If necessary, the secondary air flow may be enriched by an oxygen flow or nitrogen flow supplied by an air separation unit. The method prevents the particulate filter from being damaged by an unacceptably high particulate matter burn-off rate or an unacceptably high particulate filter temperature.
