  • Patent number: 5582665
Abstract: A plate having wells therein for receiving chemical substances is provided with a coverplate covering said filled wells. The process for sealing the wells by providing a joining seam running around the wells provides the joining seam such that it has a profiled cross-section in order to increase the contact surface between the plate and the coverplate. To this end a welding die has a front surface provided with projecting profiled regions and being heated to a temperature in the region of the melting point of the coverplate. The welding die is placed on the coverplate means and remains there for a fixed first period. Then the welding die is pressed down through a fixed path and remains in this position for a fixed second period. Removing the welding die from the coverplate is the last step in the process.

  • Patent number: 5447679
Abstract: A process serves for producing a plate comprising at least one well having ts opening facing upwards, for receiving chemical and/or biochemical and/or microbiological substances. The process, wherein the wells are made in the plate with the aid of a molding die, comprises the steps of:a) Applying a plastic film, which is deformable by the action of heat, on a molding block which serves as a molding die and which has the negative shape of the wells to be formed; andb) subjecting the plastic film, for a predetermined period of time, to the action of a hot gas flow of a predetermined first temperature, the gas flow impinging upon at least an area of the plastic film covering one of the recessed portions, heating up this area and pressing it into the recessed portion so that it comes to lie flat against the latter's inner wall which is smooth throughout.

  • Patent number: 5446263
Abstract: Device for setting the temperature of a sample selectively to different ves comprising a sample holder block having good thermal conductivity properties and at least one recess (14) for receiving a sample whose temperature is to be adjusted, and a device for adjusting the temperature of a sample holder block, wherein the device for adjusting the temperature of the sample holder block (12) comprises at least two bodies (18, 20) whose temperatures can be controlled via separate thermostats and whose temperatures can be adjusted to different values and wherein a transporter (30, 32, 34) is provided by a way in which the sample holder block (12) can be brought into thermal contact with one of the bodies (18, 20).

  • Patent number: 5430957
Abstract: A device (10) for tempering substances has a metal block arrangement (12) th at least one zone (32) the temperature of which can be set at a determined mean value, as well as at least another zone (32'). The device (10) has a metallic base plate (31) with a receptacle for the substances, and at least one of its outer surfaces can be brought into thermal contact with the metal block arrangement (12). In addition, a pressure generator (49) generates a pressure that deviates from the ambient pressure between at least one outer surface and the metal block arrangement. The device (10) further has a conveyor (33) that selectively conveys the base plate (31) into one of the zones (32, 32') of the metal block arrangement (12) along a conveying path (44). The pressure generator (49) is capable of generating an overpressure or a depression.

  • Patent number: 5224536
Abstract: Thermostatting device for adjusting the temperature of a sample to any vas within a predetermined temperature range, comprising a main body (12) of good heat-conducting properties which has its first end thermally connected to a first thermostat (14) and its second end thermally connected to a second thermostat (16) that can be set to a temperature different from that of the first thermostat, the main body (12) being sized in such a way that a temperature gradient develops along the main body (12) between these ends, and comprising a sample holder body (22) arranged on the main body (12) for being thermally coupled with the latter at any point between the ends of the main body.

  • Patent number: 4043559
Abstract: An educational game arrangement in which a systematic set of games may be played on a plurality of interrelated templates or game boards. The games played on the boards are aimed at teaching statistical principles, for example, as applied to situations in chemistry, biology, physics and economy, for example. The boards are superimposed on each other within a holding arrangement, and may be easily selected for playing a particular game. The boards or templates are held in predetermined registered position with respect to each other in the holding unit, and a transparent covering plate is positioned over the stack of the game boards. The latter is provided with coordinate markings along their rims, and the selected game board is visible through the transparent cover. The cover has openings or recesses which are arranged to correspond to a coordinate grid formed by the coordinate markings on the templates or game boards.
