  • Patent number: 5377457
Abstract: Gear-shaped precision-working tools, in particular shaving gears, capable of providing an optimum machining result only during a portion of their entire lifetime, since during each regrinding (generating), the profile displacement factor, and thus the number of the tooth flanks which engage successively and simultaneously one after the other the workpiece gear to be machined, is changed. This is remedied with the invention in such a manner that the precision-working tool is reground (generated) while maintaining the original number of teeth (z) and the original normal module of the pitch angle (.beta.), the module in transverse section and the base circle diameter are changed in such a manner that little or no change occurs to an original profile displacement factor (x).

  • Patent number: 5343656
Abstract: To manufacture grinding members covered with extremely hard abrasive granules, instead of a base member of steel, a commercially available grinding tool of a corresponding shape and size made of a porous ceramic material is used as the base member. The base member is coated with an adhesive at the areas to be covered, the abrasive granules are applied and are pressed into the pores of the ceramic material; finally the adhesive is allowed to harden.

  • Patent number: 5129185
Abstract: A method for the precision working of the tooth flanks of particularly hardened gears (workpiece W) with a gearlike tool, the tooth flanks of which tool have an abrasive surface and which rotates in mesh with the workpiece (W). In order to avoid damage to the tool caused by remaining burrs or the like in the tooth system of the workpiece (W), a twin tool with axially spaced similar tools is utilized, individual ones of the similar tools are used one after the other. The first tool removes thereby first the remaining burrs and the like and the second tool performs thereafter the actual precision working.

  • Patent number: 4976044
Abstract: A scanner head for a tooth-flank scanning device for testing and measuring of gears and similar parts, in particular of gearlike tools having abrasive tooth flanks, is adapted to be introduced into a tooth space of the respective gear or similar part and which can be guided along one of the tooth flanks bordering the tooth space. The scanning piece or insert is formed by the convex surface of a spherical segment, the radius of which is substantially greater than the radius of a ball introducible into the tooth space.

  • Patent number: 4799473
Abstract: A gearlike dressing tool coated with extremely hard abrasive grains like diamond or CBN. To reduce the manufacturing expenses, not all but only a portion of the teeth is coated. The remaining teeth remain uncoated. The coated teeth lie always directly side-by-side in a peripheral direction and have, including the coating, the same tooth thickness as the teeth which are not coated.

  • Patent number: 4757644
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for manufacturing or machining a gear workpiece with a hyperboloidally, globoidally or similarly formed gearlike tool which has an abrasive or similar surface. The axes of the workpiece and tool are skew lines. During changing of the center distance, in particular as the workpiece and tool are moved apart at the end of the machining operation, the crossed-axes angle is automatically adjusted to conform to the effective rolling circle.

  • Patent number: 4748772
Abstract: For the precision working of particularly hardened bevel gears, a method and an apparatus are disclosed in which the workpiece is moved during rolling contact with a bevel-gear-shaped tool having abrasive flanks. Workpiece and tool rotates in meshing relation with their axis spaced and crossed and each connected with a guide gear which also meshing engage and roll with one another. Both the workpiece-tool pair and also the guide-gear pair run each with backlash, however, on opposite flanks, so that the entire combination runs without backlash.

  • Patent number: 4739587
Abstract: A rolling device for a gear-grinding machine in which the rotation portion of the rolling movement is effected by roll bands secured at one end to a roll-band carriage which is movable transversely with respect to the workpiece axis and at the other end to a roll cam. The roll cam is oriented coaxially with the workpiece on a roll-cam carriage which is movably driven back and forth transversely to the workpiece axis. The roll-cam carriage and the roll-band carriage are hingedly connected to a rocker arm which is hingedly supported at a pole point which can be adjusted on the machine frame corresponding with the workpiece diameter, and transfers the back and forth movement of the roll-cam carriage onto the roll-band carriage. The pole point of the rocker arm lies on a straight line which is defined by the hinge points of the two carriages, preferably between the two hinge points. That is, the diameter of the roll cam is then larger than the pitch circle of the workpiece which is to be machined.

  • Patent number: 4677962
Abstract: A gearlike tool for dressing abrasive, gearlike, tools used for precision machining gear workpieces has tooth flanks which are coated with diamond grains. The gaps between teeth of the base member which has the diamond coating are enlarged, for example by removing teeth, in order to make the application of the coating easier. In order to assure a fully meshing engagement, the dressing tool can be combined with uncoated guide wheels which have teeth which meshingly engage the teeth of the precision machining tool.

  • Patent number: 4649671
Abstract: A method for the manufacture or machining of the tooth system of straight or helically toothed, externally or internally toothed, nonhardened or hardened workpiece with a toothed tool, the tooth flanks of which are coated with a cubic boron nitride (CBN). The workpiece and the tool roll along with a single-flank contact and are supported by a guide-gear pair which also roll along with a single-flank contact. The contacting flanks of the workpiece-tool pair are the mating flanks for the contacting flanks of the guide-gear pair. To protect the CNB-coating, the tool is already driven at a speed which is necessary for an optimum chip removal before the tool tooth flanks start to work on the workpiece tooth flanks.

  • Patent number: 4630404
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing or machining externally toothed gears using a hyperboloidally or similarly formed, internally or externally toothed tool with abrasive tooth flanks. The tool and workpiece roll on one another about respective axes which cross at a distance. The tool has a sufficient axial dimension so that it is in engagement with the workpiece teeth from one side surface to the other of the workpiece. The workpiece and tool are coupled with guide wheel pairs. Each guide wheel pair runs with potential for backlash, but the overall gearing is such that no such backlash can occur.

  • Patent number: 4610576
Abstract: A single-tooth cutter for sloping the axial face of gears, in which the gear which is to be worked performs a continuous or step-by-step rotary movement whereby successive rotations of the single-tooth cutter will cause a working on successive teeth at least one sloped surface, and in which the workpiece and the single-tooth cutter after each workpiece rotation approach one another, until the desired sloped shape is reached, the chip removal occurring through the provision of at least two edges which in peripheral direction are arranged one directly behind the other. A cutter which can also be used for this has two edges which act one directly after the other, which edges can have a different distance from the axis of rotation of the cutter.

  • Patent number: 4287659
Abstract: A method and apparatus for effecting an automated exchange of a tool in hobbing machines. At least a pair of gripping devices are mounted on a shaft for relative sliding movement therealong and for selective locking engagement with the shaft so that a rotation of the shaft will effect a rotary movement of a selected one of the gripping devices. The rotary movement of the selected gripping device is between a storage position and a working position. The gripping device is capable of holding a tool which is to be exchanged for a worn out tool. The other gripping device is generally empty and is first moved into the working position to extract the worn out tool from the milling spindle. Thereafter, the gripping devices are shifted to bring the appropriate device having a new tool therein into a position so that it can be rotated with the shaft to bring the new tool into the working position and inserted onto the milling spindle.
