  • Patent number: 6766235
Abstract: A vehicle occupant restraining system includes a plurality of safety restraint devices and utilizes a main controller and a safing controller to determine whether or not conditions are proper for deploying each safety restraint device. The system discriminates between front, side, rear, and roll-over impact events and determines which safety restraint devices should be deployed in response to an impact event. The system also independently determines whether to activate a fuel cut-off switch in response to an impact event. The main and safing controllers utilize vehicle data from a main center tunnel sensor assembly and various satellite sensors to make deployment decisions. The safing controller is used to independently verify whether or not the safety restraint should be deployed.

  • Patent number: 6584386
Abstract: In a method for controlling an occupant protection device in a vehicle and a control device therefor, a crash sensor supplies a crash signal. • Patent number: 5974892
Abstract: A pressure transducer, in particular for sensing a lateral collision in a motor vehicle, delivers an electric useful signal which is determined by a relative pressure change relating to a pressure event. Low-frequency changes in an output signal of a sensor device, which depend on the ambient pressure, are compensated by a control device with an integrating behavior. The sensitivity of the sensor device, as a manipulated variable, changes in a manner inversely proportional to the ambient pressure. Higher-frequency pressure changes in the output signal of the sensor device are not compensated, but as a result of the variable sensitivity of the sensor device, determine as relative pressure changes the useful signal, which is additionally independent of temperature influences and offset errors of the pressure transducer.

  • Patent number: 5748075
Abstract: A control assembly for a passenger protection system of a vehicle which is tripped upon the occurrence of a side impact traffic accident. The control assembly has at least one detector adapted to detect a pressure rise in a hollow body. The at least one detector is mounted in a largely enclosed side portion on the side of the vehicle body defining a hollow body such as a door. A control unit is connected to and receives signals from the at least one detector. The control unit evaluates a sudden and largely adiabatic air pressure rise detected by the detector upon a side impact collision and determines whether to actuate a passenger protection system such as an air bag.
