  • Patent number: 5695327
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a dry-running screw compressor, in which the suction-side bearing housing and the pressure-side bearing housing are provided on the inside with journals for engaging holes in the rotors. The two rotors within the compressor housing include only the body of the ribbed rotor and grooved rotor, and the journals of the rotors, which are located on the outside for mounting, are eliminated. The rotors are mounted on the pressure-side journals by means of radial and thrust bearings which are secured by corrugated nuts. Only radial bearings are used on the suction-side journals. The sealing between the tooth spaces of the rotors is ensured by means of sealing disks. To maintain the distance between the rotor faces, gearwheels are inserted on the pressure side between the sealing housing and the bearing housing. The ribbed rotor is driven in this exemplary embodiment with a coupling half for the drive via a torsion shaft.

  • Patent number: 4723781
Abstract: A liquid-sealed shaft seal for sealing the lead-through between an inner space and an outer space of a shaft with feed bores for a sealing liquid which is supplied at higher pressure than the pressure in the inner space. The seal includes partial seal gaps extending on both sides of these feed bores, and includes an inner partial seal gap in the form of a threaded shaft seal with recycling toward the sealing liquid feed. A disk with a larger outside diameter than the diameter of the inner partial seal gap is placed between the inner and outer partial seal gaps, and forms a pump chamber with the seal housing. A radial pressure increase of the supplied sealing liquid occurs in the pump chamber at higher speeds of rotation, and bores that are connected to a pressure chamber open into its radially outer area.

  • Patent number: 4613141
Abstract: A hydrostatic or hydrodynamic shaft seal comprises a ring revolving with the shaft and an axially movable static ring which is sealed against the housing by two O-rings and forms, with the revolving ring, radial seal gaps. An incompressible fluid flows and stabilizes the seal gaps and the static seal ring has a cavity for receiving the stopping or cooling liquid. A number of tensioning spring elements are arranged on the circumference or end of the static ring which take support against a ring which serves as a pressure limiting valve.

  • Patent number: 4376540
Abstract: A gas seal for a rotatable shaft of a housing which comprises, a first rotatable dimensionally stable seal ring connected to the shaft. A diaphragm is connected to the housing which exerts an axial bias on a second rotatable seal ring. The bias of the diaphragm provides a gap space between the rotatable and fixed seal ring which is supplied with a sealing gas. The material of the fixed ring is different from that of the diaphragm. A compensating ring is connected unilaterally to the fixed ring and of a material at least partly the same as the fixed ring. A slide seat is defined between the compensating ring and the fixed ring to permit axial movement of at least a part of the compensating ring. This part is connected in turn to the diaphragm so that stress free transmission of axial thrust is provided between the seal ring and the diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 4097052
Abstract: A shaft seal construction, comprises a shaft housing, with a shaft rotatably supported in the housing and having a shaft ring extending around the shaft which defines a ring seal face made of berryllium copper. A packing ring of aluminum has an annular packing ring face of an oxide of the aluminum which is engaged with the ring seal face. The packing ring is supported by a flexible closure member carried by the housing and engages with the packing and provides a gas seal with the packing ring around the shaft. The spring urges the packing ring into engagement with the shaft ring.

  • Patent number: 4071253
Abstract: A gas-sealed shaft packing, comprises a rotary sealing ring which is adapted to be fixed to the shaft for rotation therewith and which has respective end surfaces which are spaced apart slightly from respective fixed sealing rings to define a sealing gap on respective sides of the rotary sealing ring. The fixed rings are biased toward the movable ring and gas conduits extend from a housing into each fixed ring and terminate in the gap between the fixed ring and the associated rotary sealing ring. The fixed rings are held by flange members which extend radially inwardly from the housing toward the shaft and resilient diaphragms are disposed between the flanges and the fixed rings or non-rotatable rings so as to urge them toward the rotatable sealing ring carried by the shaft.
