  • Patent number: 5811712
Abstract: A projective device especially useful against hollow charge projectiles is formed of a plurality of spaced apart layers inclined obliquely to the main firing direction of the projectiles. A centrally located combination layer consists of two disrupter layers sandwiching a reaction or explosive layer. On either side of the combination layer is a retardation layer. A movably displaceable layer is located on the opposite of one retardation layer from the combination layer and forms the outside surface of the device, while an immovable layer is on the opposite side of the other retardation layer from the combination layer and forms the inside surface of the device. When a hollow charge projectile impacts against the device, the hollow charge spike generated by the projectile is disrupted on its path through the device so that the effectiveness of the spike is seriously impeded.

  • Patent number: 5796029
Abstract: A proximity fuse/time fuse, in which the active optical distance sensor switches over to time delay in the case of disturbances occurring at a short distance before meeting the target, such as detonation flash, fog, explosive charge vapor or fireball. The fuse presets the data for the necessary time delay itself from the data of the preceding distance measurements. One exemplary embodiment is described and shown schematically.

  • Patent number: 5618258
Abstract: A thumb ring for an endoscopic instrument is rotatably mounted at an affixation site to be rotatable about an axis parallel to the instrument longitudinal axis. A thumb insertion aperture has a concave rest surface in the ring opposite the affixation site. The rest surface is substantially shaped like a cylinder segment of which the axis, as seen in the direction of thumb insertion, forms an acute angle with the ring axis.

  • Patent number: 5544589
Abstract: An axially extending fragmentation warhead having a plurality of separate axially extending deformation charges in its radially outer surface. The deformation charges are located in a damping layer enclosing a fragmentation layer covering a cylindrical jacket enclosing a main explosive charge. The deformation charges facing a target can be individually ignited to inwardly deform the cylindrical jacket and the fragmentation layer prior to igniting the main explosive charge for selectively directing the fragmentation layer at the target. The deformation charges can be ignited individually or in selected groups to increase the effectiveness of the fragments directed at the target.

  • Patent number: 5303654
Abstract: A combined projectile is formed of a leading projectile part and a trailing projectile part disposed in coaxial relation and spaced apart by a defined constructional distance. The trailing projectile part can be a weight projectile. Further, the trailing projectile may include a device for retarding detonation relative to the detonation of the leading projectile part. The leading projectile part forms an opening in a target and permits the trailing projectile part to move unimpeded through the opening.

  • Patent number: 4799427
Abstract: An ignition device for a projectile, in particular a guided missile, where the ignition moment is controllable as a function of the impingement delay and of the flight time of the projectile. This allows compensation for the type of material comprising the taget, e.g., hard or soft, and for the amount of time the projectile has been airborne, thus compensating for reduced projectile velocity at the time of striking the target.

  • Patent number: 4696232
Abstract: A detonator safety device for a weapon, such as an artillery shell or a war ead, includes a detonator member, a detonator charge and an igniter plate for applying a firing impact with the aid of the igniter plate on a main explosive charge of the weapon in response to the firing of the detonator charge by the detonator member when the device is in a firing position. The arrangement is such, that the main explosive charge cannot be fired by the igniter plate when the device is in a safety position even if the detonator charge should accidentally be fired.

  • Patent number: 4658726
Abstract: A fuze for setting off jacketed explosive charges, particularly underwater charges, comprises a breaking wall aimed at the explosive charge, and an initiating charge aimed at the breaking wall. Between the initiating charge and the breaking wall, an intermediate space is provided which can be filled with water. With the intermediate space filled with water, upon detonating the initiating charge, a shockwave is produced in the water in the intermediate space by which the breaking wall is fragmented to form a piercing spike setting off the explosive charge.

  • Patent number: 4516501
Abstract: Ammunition, such as a warhead with an explosive charge comprises a casing which is provided with a material construction of a nature providing at least controlled formation of fragments of a certain preferred mass, coverings for formation of explosion formed projectiles of a certain preferred mass, or preformed fragments of a certain preferred mass. The explosive charge is located within the casing and there are means for selective munition conversion alternatively to control formation of fragments or to natural fragmentation. For this purpose one or more recesses are provided in the explosive charge adjacent the casing as a means for munition conversion to the formation of explosion formed projectiles or unshattered preformed fragments. The filling of inert material is provided in at least a portion of the recess and it comprises a liquid inert material or a plastic inert material or a liquid explosive or plastic explosive.

  • Patent number: 4368660
Abstract: A protective arrangement against projectiles is a wall structure formed f a wall layer of explosive material, and at least one additional wall layer covering at least one face of the wall layer of explosive material. The additional wall layer is made of a non-explosive, inert high-density material such as metal. In one embodiment both faces of the explosive wall layer are covered with a layer of inert, non-explosive high-density material such as metal. The protective arrangement is particularly suitable for protection against the destructive force of hollow explosive charge projectiles.

  • Patent number: 4232609
Abstract: The proximity fuse is incorporated in a warhead carried by a missile. This warhead comprises several active or passive bodies, which consist of preformed splinters or shaped charges. The proximity fuse comprises a circuit for producing an ignition signal to start the decomposition of the warhead when a distance is reached between the warhead and a target, for instance a missile. This distance is determined by using electromagnetic waves. The circuit comprises means for determining the time t.sub.A, which will elapse before the warhead encounters the target. Moreover, the circuit comprises means for storing a constant reference time t.sub.B, which is fixed in such a way that the active or passive bodies released within a certain space sector when the warhead decomposes, will be scattered in a certain space, i.e. they will cover this space in front of the target within this reference time. The circuit also comprises means for comparing the calculated time with the constant reference time being provided.

  • Patent number: 4122775
Abstract: The land mine, comprises a flat mine housing having top and bottom flat broad surfaces and a side edge which is at least partly cylindrical. A tubular bushing extends in the housing between the top and bottom and it is closed on one of the surfaces by a cover. A firing system is located in the bushing for igniting an explosive charge which is contained in the remaining portion of the housing. Either or both of the top and bottom surfaces contain one or more projectile-forming hollow charge covers which engage directly over the explosive charge located within the housing. The mine may be formed with a half-cylindrical surface and a flat edge having a notch for engagement over a central mounting rod, or the mine may be made as a complete cylinder or disc. The hollow-charge liners are advantageously made circular and are arranged at one or more equally spaced locations around the surface of the top and bottom of the mine housing.

  • Patent number: 4112844
Abstract: The releasing device comprises a piezoelectrical acceleration pick-up conted electrically with a parallel connection comprising a first instantaneous-response and a second delayed-response threshold switch, the switches having different respective threshold values. A switch actuated by the threshold switches is also incorporated which, in the presence of a signal from the first threshold switch, blocks ignition initiation. When the second threshold switch has a considerably lower threshold value than the first, ignition is initiated only in the event of slight accelerations of the piezoelectrical acceleration pick-up, for instance on manual mine clearance. In the event of strong, short-term shock pressures, for example due to a shell detonating in the vicinity of the releasing device, ignition is hindered.
