Patent number: 5092800Abstract: A transmission mounting system includes a plurality of adjustable support units which are positioned between a transmission and supporting or reference surfaces. Each support unit includes a relatively yieldable elastic bearing and an extensible-retractible spacing link arranged in tandem. Signals indicative of the distance between transmission and the support surface are generated by a sensor and received by a control unit. The control unit effects dimension changes in the spacing link which compensate for deformation of the elastic bearing.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1991Date of Patent: March 3, 1992Assignee: Renk Tacke GmbHInventor: Manfred Hirt

Patent number: 4926715Abstract: A planetary gear train comprising at least two planetary gear sets arranged coaxially behind, and drivingly connected with, one another, of which one planetary gear set (5) contains fewer, and the other planetary set (17) more, planet gears (7) and the planet gears and their bearings in both planetary gear sets are identically constructed. The pitch diameter of the sun gear (16) and the pitch diameter of the ring bear (18) of the other planetary gear set (17) are larger than in one planetary gear set (5), and both sets (5, 17) are constructed for approximately the same line loading of the sun gears, planet gears, and ring gears (force per face width in the contact line of two teeth which bear against each other). Thus, a gear unit is obtained which has a smaller cross section with up to 50% savings in weight.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1983Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignee: Zahnraderfabrik Renk AGInventors: Manfred Hirt, Heinrich Arndt

Patent number: 4615239Abstract: A ship gear train arrangement includes a differential gearing between a main input shaft and output shaft and a parallel shaft with a hydrodynamic coupling (50). The parallel shaft connects a point (at 60) of the main input shaft on the input side (30) of the differential gearing with a reaction element (16) of the differential gearing. The coupling effect and thus also the speed of output shaft (32) of the ship gear train arrangement can be changed smoothly down to zero speed by variation of the liquid level in the hydrodynamic coupling. The ship propeller can therefore be driven at a speed far lower than the lowest speed of the ship main drive motor.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1984Date of Patent: October 7, 1986Assignee: Zahnraderfabrik Renk AGInventors: Manfred Hirt, Eric John

Patent number: 4584903Abstract: A twin screw extruder drive system includes a pair of parallel juxtaposed output shafts each of which is fixed to a sun gear of a planetary gear set. Each gear set includes a plurality of planet idler gears which are only rotatable about their axes and engage both the sun gear and a ring gear. Symmetrically disposed about the circumference of the ring gear are at least two drive pinions. The two gear sets have parallel axes and are axially offset from one another with the output shafts extending through a space between the planet gears of the other gear set. In one embodiment each drive pinion is driven by a separate electric motor and all motors are electronically and mechanically speed synchronized. A single electric motor is employed to drive all drive pinions in an alternate configuration.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1984Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: Zahnraderfabrik Renk A.G.Inventors: Manfred Hirt, Heinrich Arndt

Patent number: 4513637Abstract: A high speed gearing assembly includes at least two interengaged composite gears having spur or single helical teeth. Each of the gears is formed of three annular gear parts which rotate about a common axis. The gear parts are juxtaposed in side by side relationship. The central part of each gear is offset relative to its adjacent end parts approximately one half a pitch length. Each end part is approximately one half the width of the central part. With a ratio of tooth engagement length to circular pitch length, i.e. the degree of overlap, of approximately 1.5, increased load capacity, steady running and reduced noise levels are attained.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1982Date of Patent: April 30, 1985Assignee: Zahnraderfabrik Renk A.G.Inventor: Manfred Hirt

Patent number: 4325589Abstract: A multi-surface friction bearing construction for a machine part, for example a planet gear of a planetary gear system, which rotates on a stationary pin or the like, the rotating machine part having a loading direction which is stationary relative to the pin. Several bearing surfaces on the circumference of the stationary pin are formed by pitch circles each having a cylindrical surface. The rotating machine part has a circular cylindrical bore. The radii of the cylindrical surfaces each differ from the radius of the cylindrical bore of the rotating part and form points of intersection with the radii of adjacent cylindrical surfaces. The stationary pin also has axially extending grooves in the surface thereof. The rotating part at least in the carrying area of its circular cylindrical bore is of a material having good sliding characteristics and a higher heat expansion coefficient than that of the other portions of the rotating part.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1980Date of Patent: April 20, 1982Assignee: Carl Hurth Maschinen- und Zahnradfabrik GmbH & Co.Inventor: Manfred Hirt

Patent number: 4174771Abstract: A friction clutch having a pair of axially spaced first friction members connected to a first clutch half and at least one second friction member connected to the other clutch half. Both of the clutch halves define a housing for containing a liquid which is free to flow between the first friction members as well as between the second friction member and the first friction members when the second friction member is interposed between the first friction members. The second friction member is supported for movement into and out of axial alignment with the first friction members so that the liquid contained between the first and second friction members will function as the torque transmitting medium to effect a drive from the first clutch half to the second clutch half and vice versa.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1977Date of Patent: November 20, 1979Assignee: Carl Hurth Maschinen- und ZahnradfabrikInventor: Manfred Hirt

Patent number: 4169519Abstract: A lubricating device for use with transmission gearing, particularly in the starting phase of the transmission. A pair of oil reservoirs are provided with one being located higher than the other. The upper reservoir contains the transmission gearing therein. A pair of vertically spaced outlets are provided in the upper reservoir with both outlets being connected in fluid circuit with the lower reservoir. The fluid circuit for the lower outlet includes a valve controlling the flow of oil between the upper and lower reservoirs in response to the fluid pressure produced by a pump. The transmission gearing is immersed in the oil when the lower outlet is blocked by the valve, which will occur when the pump is off.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1978Date of Patent: October 2, 1979Assignee: Carl Hurth Maschinen-und ZahnradfabrikInventors: Manfred Hirt, Wolfgang Leiber

Patent number: 4129394Abstract: A pivot pin construction for pivot joints, particularly universal joints wherein an inner and an outer member are provided in the construction. A spacing is provided between the inner and outer members and a resilient mass is secured in the spacing. The spacing between the inner and outer members is enlarged at the axial ends thereof so that when the pivot pin is displaced, the volume of the displaced resilient mass in one plane plus the volume of the displaced resilient mass in an adjacent plane is absorbed by the volume between the two surfaces in the respective plane.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1977Date of Patent: December 12, 1978Assignee: Carl Hurth Maschinen- und ZahnradfabrikInventors: Johann Eichinger, Manfred Hirt
