  • Publication number: 20040231898
Abstract: To cool an automotive drive system mounted in the rear of the vehicle, air inlet openings are provided in the covering panel part of the undercarriage, creating through the influx of air a cold air layer zone around the transmission and the bottom of the engine, displacing a hot air layer zone of the engine, which is layered above the cold air, outward through air outlets.

  • Patent number: 6349680
Abstract: A cooling device for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, particularly of a passenger car, has at least one radiator, through which cooling water is flowing. The radiator is disposed in a cooling cycle and connected over a supplying pipeline and a returning pipeline with the internal combustion engine. Moreover, a heat exchanger, with which the oil of a transmission is cooled, is provided in the cooling cycle. For spatial and functional reasons, a flow resistance is connected in the supplying pipeline before the internal combustion engine. A branching pipeline, which is connected with the heat exchanger of the transmission and downstream, behind the heat exchanger, with the flow resistance, leads away from the supplying pipeline.

  • Patent number: 4723594
Abstract: A radiator arrangement for a motor vehicle has air inlet openings in the front of the arrangement and lateral air discharge openings. The arrangement is composed of an air guiding housing which has two separated spaces for receiving the water radiator and the oil radiator respectively. Separate air inlet ducts are provided for the spaces and a combined air guiding duct combines the air flows downstream of the radiators. The air is then discharged through lateral discharge openings in the side walls of the vehicle located ahead of the front wheels.

  • Patent number: 4673206
Abstract: For improving the air drag coefficient of a motor vehicle, discharge openings for a first air stream are provided in a cover part of the vehicle underside directly in front of and exclusively within the area of the wheels; the first air stream is conducted through an air guidance device arranged on the body side whereby a device for reducing the flow velocity of the first air stream is provided inside of the air guidance device. The first air stream has a smaller kinetic energy within the area of the discharge opening than the second air stream which flows through the space between the vehicle underside and the road surface.
