  • Patent number: 4575520
Abstract: Rigid, closed-cell, flame-resistant polyurethane foams are produced by reacting a polyol mixture with a polyphenyl-polymethylene-polyisocyanate in the present of a catalyst system. The polyol mixture includes: (1) from 25 to 43 wt % flame proofing agent, (2) from 5 to 50 wt % sucrose polyether having an OH number of from 350 to 550, (3) from 0 to 30 wt % amine initiated polyethers having an OH number of from 400 to 800, (4) from 0 to 30 wt % other polyether or polyester having an OH number of from 150 to 600, (5) from 4 to 13 wt % glycerol, (6) from 0.5 to 3 wt % silicone stabilizer and (7) from 0.05 to 1.5 wt % water. The catalyst system is made up of at least two components selected from tertiary amines, alkali metal carboxylates, quaternary ammonium carboxylates and organic tin compounds. The reactants are employed in quantities such that the NCO to OH equivalent ratio is from 1.07 to 1.45 (the isocyanate-index is from 1.07 to 1.45).

  • Patent number: 4331778
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the production of polyurethane plastics by reacting compounds containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms and having a molecular weight in the range of from 400 to 10,000, polyisocyanates and, optionally, chain extenders having a molecular weight of from 32 to 400, foam stabilizers, water and/or organic blowing agents in the presence of catalysts containing tertiary nitrogen. These catalysts are characterized in that mixtures of (a) one or more cross-linking catalysts corresponding to the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 which may be the same or different, represent C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 -alkyl radicals, preferably CH.sub.3 -- or C.sub.2 H.sub.5 radicals,R' and R" represent hydrogen or the same or different C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl radicals, preferably CH.sub.3 -- or C.sub.2 H.sub.

  • Patent number: 4177332
Abstract: In the production of a foamed synthetic material by the reaction of starting materials which undergo a polymerization, polycondensation or polyaddition reaction to produce a high molecular weight synthetic material in the presence of a blowing agent, e.g. a polyurethane, or by foaming an unfoamed thermoplastic synthetic material by means of a blowing agent, the improvement which comprises employing 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-chloroethane as the blowing agent, optionally in admixture with 1,1-difluoro-2-chloroethane.

  • Patent number: 4060571
Abstract: A process for the production of N,N-bis-(2-hydroxyalkyl)-aminomethane phosphonic acid dialkyl esters of the formula ##STR1## in which R is an optionally substituted alkyl radical with 2 to 10 carbon atoms, andR' is hydrogen or a lower alkyl radical with up to 6 carbon atoms,Comprising reacting an oxazolidine of the formula ##STR2## with a dialkyl phosphite in the presence of an acid ion exchanger. Preferably R is ethyl or isopropyl, R' is hydrogen or methyl, the ion exchanger is a sulfonated polystyrene resin and the reaction is effected at about 30.degree. to 120.degree.
