  • Patent number: 5778754
Abstract: A valve assembly (10) for controlling a pneumatic brake booster comprises a valve housing (16) with a first and a second valve seat (18, 20) as well as with a valve body (26) adapted to be applied to both valve seats (18, 20). In one position of an operating member (24) the valve body (26) is lifted off the first valve seat (18) only, while in another position of the operating member (24) it is lifted off the second valve seat (20). Radially outside the valve housing (16) an annular third valve seat (64) and a control sleeve (60) surrounding the valve housing are arranged, which as an additional valve body can be axially moved by means of the operating member (24) relative to the valve housing (16).

  • Patent number: 5647213
Abstract: A master cylinder (10) for a hydraulic brake system comprises a quickfill stage (28) which in the initial phase of an actuation of the master cylinder rapidly fills an associated brake system with hydraulic fluid upon a relatively short actuation travel. A housing (12) of the master cylinder (10) extends essentially along an axis (A) and comprises at least one pressure chamber (14) formed therein which is open at the actuation end of the master cylinder (10). A quickfill piston and a quickfill chamber of the quickfill stage (28) are essentially formed by a cup shaped component (30) which is guided on the acutation end of the master cylinder housing (12) in a telescopical and pressure chamber sealing manner. This solution can be manufactured economically and requires little installation space.

  • Patent number: 5056413
Abstract: In a valve housing (30) a first and a second valve seat (32, 34) are arranged to which a common valve body (40) can be applied. In one position of an actuating member (38) the valve body (40) is lifted only from the first valve seat (32), two chambers (24, 26) of the brake booster (10) thereby being connected together and both separated from an air inlet (50). In another position of the actuating member (38) the valve body (40) is lifted from the second valve seat (34), the two chambers (24, 26) thereby being separated from each other and one of them connected to the air inlet (50). The valve assembly (28) comprises an additional venting channel (80) which opens into the chamber (26) of the brake booster (10) adapted to be connected to the air inlet (50) and is controlled by an additional valve (66, 72). The additional valve (66, 72) is adapted to be opened by a movement of the actuating member (38) which exceeds the movement necessary for lifting the valve body (40) from the second valve seat (34).

  • Patent number: 4942738
Abstract: In a booster casing (12) a movable wall (14) separates two compartments (16,18) from each other. In inoperative position, a control valve (20) connects the two compartments (16,18) with each other, and separates them when in an operative position, connecting one (16) of them to a source of pressure which differs from the pressure in the other compartment (18). A cylinder casing (52) is attached to the booster casing (12), projects into the same, and contains at least one pressure piston (54) which defines a pressure chamber (56) for pressurizing a brake circuit. An input piston (40) having a greater effective surface than the pressure piston (54) and defining an input chamber (42) is movable together with the movable wall (14). The input chamber (42) is adapted to be relieved of pressure by a relief valve (80) if the booster (10) fails. The input piston (40) and chamber (42) are arranged inside the booster casing (12), and the input piston (40) forms part of the movable wall (14).

  • Patent number: 4630870
Abstract: A casing (10) has an inlet (20) and a valve chamber (40) connected to the same as well as an outlet (60). In the valve chamber (40) a valve seat (54) is arranged at the entrance of a passage (52) leading to the outlet (60) and furthermore a valve member (42) is arranged for brake fluid to flow around it. The valve member is movable in response to deceleration from an inoperative position against the valve seat (54). A barrier member (26) is arranged between the inlet (20) and the valve member (42) for flow of brake fluid around or through the same. The barrier member is movable from an inoperative position remote from the valve member (42) until it hits the valve member (42), at least approximately in the direction of movement thereof.

  • Patent number: 4239296
Abstract: A control valve assembly for a vehicle braking system, comprises a valve controlling communication between an inlet and an outlet, the valve having a valve seat carried by a control piston and an inertia-responsive member, preferably a ball, movable into engagement with the valve seat to close the valve at a predetermined deceleration of the vehicle. A disabling device is provided which is operable in response to the pressure at the outlet to hold the valve open. The disabling device comprises an auxiliary piston which is biased to an inoperative position and is movable, in response to a predetermined outlet pressure, against the biasing force to hold the ball off its valve seat.

  • Patent number: 3963100
Abstract: The invention is an improved adjuster for a shoe drum brake of the type having an operating arm for mechanical operation pivoted to one of the shoes, a strut of adjustable length extending between the shoes and including a ratchet, and a pawl lever having a first arm carrying a pawl cooperating with said ratchet, a second arm engaging the end of the strut, and biasing means urging the second arm into permanent engagement with the end of the strut to urge it axially into engagement with the operating arm.

  • Patent number: 3941217
Abstract: A vehicle wheel internal shoe drum brake has a pair of opposed brake shoes, an actuator acting between one pair of adjacent ends of the shoes and a two-part adjustable strut for adjusting the positions of the shoes relative to each other to compensate for wear. The strut has an elongate non-rotatable part coupled to one of the brake shoes and a rotatable part, preferably a nut member, in screw-threaded engagement with the non-rotatable part and directly engaging the other brake shoe.
