  • Patent number: 5816125
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for the removal of trimming strips located on point needles, it is intended to convey the trimming strips from a cylinder rotating at high rpm, in particular a blade cylinder of a scissors cut device, to a disposal device. This is achieved in an operation in which in that the speared trimming strips are completely pushed off the point needles by stripping fingers acting on them from beneath. The removed trimming strips are supplied to a disposal device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 29, 1996
Date of Patent: October 6, 1998
    Assignee: Koenig & Bauer-Albert Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventors: Manfred Kepert, Simon Kostiza
  • Patent number: 5647949
Abstract: In a folding apparatus for web-fed rotary printing presses with linear folding units, transverse folding units and a cylinder part it is intended to selectively produce transversely stapled as well as transversely glued products. A receiving unit for interchangeable transverse gluing devices and continuous transverse stapling devices is disposed below the linear folding units and above the cylinder part.

  • Patent number: 5547452
Abstract: A collecting cylinder and a folding flap cylinder cooperate to form a cross-folding device for signatures in a rotary printing press. The leading edge of each signature is initially retained on the collecting cylinder and is held there after insertion of the cylinder into the folding flap. The trailing edge of the signature is transferred to grippers on the folding flap cylinder at a point where the two cylinders are in contact. Operation of the cross-folding device results in reduced folded product damage.

  • Patent number: 5520378
Abstract: A folding apparatus for rotary printing presses uses at least a single stage speed reducing device between a collection cylinder and a folding blade cylinder to reduce the speed of travel of signatures before they are cross-folded. The reduction in the speed of travel of the signatures eliminates damage to the signatures during their cross folding while allowing the printing press to operate at a high rate of speed.

  • Patent number: 5312488
Abstract: A cross gluing cylinder has spaced peripheral glue application bars which apply glue to a paper web. The overall circumferential length of the cross gluing cylinder can be changed by shifting the glue application bars and cooperating intermediate cylinder sections radially outwardly or inwardly.
