  • Publication number: 20100179310
Abstract: Some aspects relate to methods for genetic analysis of selected cells from within a heterogeneous population of cells. The population of cells first can be partitioned. Selected cells are identified by imaging, and then specifically targeted and lysed by irradiation with an energy beam, resulting in specific release of their cellular contents into the culture medium. The culture medium then can be sampled and assayed for the desired nucleic acids.

  • Patent number: 6304613
Abstract: A data carrier processing system is provided for receiving an amplitude-modulated carrier signal. The system includes rectifiers and a voltage limiter that limits the d.c. supply voltage that is provided by the rectifiers. The voltage limiter provides a delayed response to amplitude variations in the carrier signal, so as to avoid adverse effects on the modulation of the carrier signal, while also providing an un-delayed response to excess amplitude values, so as to avoid excessive d.c. supply voltage for circuit elements of the data carrier system.

  • Patent number: 5874829
Abstract: Two parallel regulator stages, each comprising a transistor (T1, T2, respectively), are provided. The transistor (T2) forms part of the indirect parallel regulator stage and acts directly on the rectifier. It is capable of taking up comparatively large currents and hence is comparatively slow. The transistor (T1) forms part of the direct regulator stage and operates in parallel with the sustaining capacitor. Because of the coarse control provided by the transistor (T2), it need take up small currents only and can hence have a very fast control behavior. Because of the coarse control by the transistor (T2), the alternating voltage on the antenna terminals (LA and LB) quickly breaks down when the RF signal is interrupted; consequently, the transmission rate can be increased in the case of pause interval modulation. Static discharges are also dissipated by the transistor (T2), so that no additional protective circuitry is required for this purpose.

  • Patent number: 5657676
Abstract: Process for emptying liquids and/or gases from a container, in particular from a shock absorber, in which a tool is used to penetrate the wall of the container to create a drain opening, whereby the tool is driven into the container by means of a pressure pulse. The pressure pulse is thereby generated by means of a controlled propellant charge inside a tool propellant chamber.

  • Patent number: 4480730
Abstract: In a shock absorber unit for vehicles of the double-tube type a piston rod guiding member is provided at respective first ends of a cylinder and a container surrounding the cylinder. The first end of the container engagingly surrounds a radially outer face of the piston rod guide member. The container is tube-shaped and has substantially constant wall thickness along its total length. The radially outer surface of the piston rod guiding member is provided with at least one radially inward directed recess or at least one radially outward directed projection. The first end of the container is deformed such as to engage this projection or recess respectively. A sleeve member engagingly surrounds the first end of the container. This sleeve member is also provided with a deformation which deformation is in engagement with the deformation of the container.

  • Patent number: 4460074
Abstract: In the illustrative embodiments described, a double tube shock absorber is provided with a continuously open throttling fluid passage device both on the piston valve unit and the bottom valve unit. The continuously open fluid passage device comprises a fluid passage chamber defined by a first wall member and a second wall member. The fluid passage chamber is connected to a first fluid chamber of the shock absorber by a first axially directed opening and to a second fluid chamber of the shock absorber by a second radially directed opening. The second radially directed opening is located radially outward of said first opening. The axial height of the fluid passage chamber continuously decreases in radial direction between said first opening and said second opening.

  • Patent number: 4345748
Abstract: A fluid damped unit includes a cylinder, a piston rod arranged for extending and retracting movement from one end of the cylinder, the rod having a piston at its end within the cylinder, and a damper unit arranged in an annular work chamber formed between the piston rod and the cylinder for damping the movement of the piston rod. The damper unit includes a damping ring which is carried in a damping ring carrier, the ring frictionally contacting the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder. A stop ring is mounted to the piston rod for contacting the damping ring carrier when the piston rod is extended past a predetermind intermediate position toward a fully extended position wherein movement of the piston rod is hydraulically damped. The damping ring carrier is arranged to be fixed in the axial direction of the cylinder when the piston rod is retracted beyond its predetermined intermediate position.
