  • Patent number: 5532452
Abstract: A welding robot, in particular for automatic welding of spirally bent tubes for producing dynamically balanced thrust nozzles, is provided with a sensor arrangement which scans the course and the cross-sectional geometry, in particular the gap width, of the joint gap between the components to be welded together. The robot includes an evaluation unit generating setting signals, and a setting device which is controlled by the setting signals and which adjustably sets the welding parameters (welding speed and welding output) and guides the welding head along the joint gap in a multi-axially adjustable manner.

  • Patent number: 5380475
Abstract: For the manufacturing of an oxidation-stable component that can withstand temperature changes for space travel, a solid CFC-body with a density of from 0.1 to 0.8 g/cm.sup.3, which has nondirectional short fibers, is made from short carbon fibers and a hardenable resin binder. From the solid CFC-body, a CFC-blank having the dimensions of the component to be manufactured is prepared by means of turning or other material cutting. The CFC-blank is infiltrated with pyrolytic carbon to a density of no more than 1.0 g/cm.sup.3 and then with metallic silicon so that its density amounts to more than 2.0 g/cm.sup.3. A portion of the metallic silicon is reacted with the pyrolytic carbon to form silicon carbide. The proportion of the unreacted metallic silicon which remains in the component after this reaction amounts to at least 15 percent by weight.

  • Patent number: 5052463
Abstract: A pipe section, especially an elbow pipe section, is cast to have an internal heat insulation lining so that the pipe section can withstand temperatures up to about 2500.degree. C. The internal heat insulation is first formed as a hollow casting core of carbon fiber composite material which, after curing, is inserted into a casting mold to function as the casting core which then becomes the internal heat insulation of the pipe section as the result of the casting of the pipe section, whereby the carbon fiber composite material is bonded to the interior surface of the pipe section.

  • Patent number: 4531271
Abstract: An apparatus and method for fixedly positioning a rotationally symmetrical constructional part having an irregular longitudinal peripheral wall consisting of a plurality of spirally wound juxtaposed tubes. The apparatus comprises a rotatable core having a peripheral surface corresponding to the inner contour of the peripheral wall for supporting the tubes with means for rotating the core about the axis of symmetry. Clamping devices are included for fixedly positioning the ends of the tubes on the core. A wire wrapping device is positioned alongside the core for applying a removable temporary wire wrapping of non-circular wire cross-section under tensile stress to the surface of the tubes.

  • Patent number: 4148121
Abstract: The constructional parts have walls formed of elongated elements, such as res or tubes, wound spirally in juxtaposition about the axis of symmetry of the part and connected to each other. The elongated elements are bent to shape utilizing a bending device having at least one bending groove conformable to the predetermined three-dimensional geometry of the part to be manufactured. One end of each wire or tube is fixed to the bending device and the other end is engaged in a clamping and adjusting device designed as a combined Cardan swivel joint which, during the bending, it utilized to continuously control the adjustment parameters of the wire or tube, about three mutually intersecting axes, in conformity with such predetermined three-dimensional geometry of the part.

  • Patent number: 4078604
Abstract: In a heat exchanger wall construction, such as used in regeneratively cooled combustion chambers for liquid fueled rocket engines, the wall construction consists of an inner wall with cooling channels spaced apart by webs. The cooling channels are open on one surface of the inner wall. An outer wall contacts the webs of the inner wall and forms a closure over the openings from the cooling channels. The outer wall consists of an intermediate layer electro-deposited on the surface of the inner wall in which the cooling channels are formed so that it provides a closure surface for the channels. The surfaces of the channels within the inner wall are coated by electro-depositing a layer of gold on them. After forming the gold layer on the surfaces of the cooling channels, the outer surfaces of the webs are etched so that the gold layer extends outwardly from the outer surface of the webs. Next the intermediate layer is deposited and it can be either a single layer or multi-layered.

  • Patent number: 4048826
Abstract: The constructional parts have walls formed of elongated juxtaposed tubes, wound spirally about the axis of symmetry of the constructional parts and connected to each other. The tubes are bent to shape by a bending device having at least one bending flank or edge surface conformable to the predetermined 3-dimensional geometry of the part to be manufactured, with one end of each tube being fixed to the bending device and the other end being engaged in a clamping and adjusting device designed as a combined Cardan swivel joint. During bending, the clamping and adjusting device is utilized to continuously control the adjustment parameters of the tube being bent, about three mutually intersecting and perpendicular axes, in conformity with the predetermined three-dimensional geometry of the part, and the radial distance of the swivel joint from the axis of symmetry of the bending device is continuously controlled.
