Publication number: 20110254229Abstract: Seal assemblies are provided. In one embodiment, an example shaft seal assembly comprises an immiscible fluid and a reservoir structure. The immiscible fluid is immiscible with respect to a contained internal fluid in an enclosure with a penetrating shaft. The reservoir structure is disposed in close proximity to the shaft, and the reservoir structure contains the immiscible fluid. The immiscible fluid of the seal assembly provides a fluid barrier to the internal fluid to limit loss of the internal fluid over time.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2009Publication date: October 20, 2011Applicant: BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTEInventors: Manfred Luttinger, Gary H. Brawley, Steven J. Shaffer, Bruce Prushing, James D. Browning, Melissa Roshon

Publication number: 20040159654Abstract: A susceptor composition that can bond two or more layers or substrates to one another and that can be used to coat or cut a substrate. The susceptor composition is activated in the presence of radio frequency (RF) energy. In one embodiment, the susceptor composition of the present invention comprises a susceptor and a carrier. The carrier and susceptor are blended with one another and form a mixture, preferably a uniform mixture. The susceptor is present in an amount effective to allow the susceptor composition to be heated by RF energy. In a preferred embodiment, the susceptor also functions as an adhesive. The susceptor is an ionic or polar compound and acts as either a charge-carrying or an oscillating/vibrating component of the susceptor composition. The susceptor generates thermal energy in the presence of an RF electromagnetic or electrical field (hereafter RF field).Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2003Publication date: August 19, 2004Applicant: Codaco, Inc.Inventors: William J. Ryan, Manfred Luttinger, Bhima Vijayendran, Jonathan M. Gorbold, Lewis Hamilton, Steve Skewes, Gary C. Adishian, Daniel J. Lincoln, Robert Sengillo, John Cunliffe

Patent number: 4713407Abstract: The present invention relates to a polyester resin composition, and more particularly, to a polyester resin composition having excellent properties in flame retardance, mechanical property, heat resistance and moldability. Said polyester resin composition comprises 100 parts by weight of polyester resin (A), from 20 to 70 parts by weight of glass fibers (B), from 2 to 8 parts by weight of a crystallization-accelerating agent (C), from 10 to 25 parts by weight of flame retardant (D) and, as a auxiliary flame retardant (E), from 1 to 10 parts by weight of an antimony compound and from 2 to 12 parts by weight of a boric acid salt.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1986Date of Patent: December 15, 1987Assignee: Idemitsu Petrochemical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Philip E. Bailey, Gordon E. Pickett, Manfred Luttinger, Takashi Umeda

Patent number: 4141877Abstract: This invention relates to the coprocessing of hydrated glass with organic polymers to form integral bodies which can be stronger, tougher, and more durable than the original hydrated glass and stiffer than the original plastic material. The process is amenable to any hydrated glass so long as the processing temperature of the hydrated glass is below the temperature at which decomposition of the organic polymer takes place. Chemical bonding between the hydrated glass and a thermosetting organic polymer is achieved through the use of silane coupling agents. Such are not necessary with thermoplastic polymers. The invention is applicable with both thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers which are resistant to alkali environments.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1977Date of Patent: February 27, 1979Assignee: Corning Glass WorksInventors: Manfred Luttinger, Anthony R. Olszewski, Donald R. Parnell

Patent number: 4089837Abstract: Shell cores and molds are prepared more rapidly by the shell process using resin coated sands wherein the resin is a phenol-formaldehyde novalak resin but having a small amount, e.g. about 1 to about 10 percent by weight, of resorcinol incorporated therein whereby a significant reduction in the cycle time required to produce the cores or molds is achieved.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1977Date of Patent: May 16, 1978Assignees: Manley Bros. of Indiana, Inc., Borden, Inc.Inventors: Manfred Luttinger, George E. Cremeans, Louis J. Nowacki
