  • Patent number: 6305059
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for stuffer box crimping a spun multifilament yarn, wherein the yarn is packed in a crimping device to form a yarn plug. After cooling the yarn plug, it is unraveled into a yarn. In so doing, the position of the unraveling point is adjusted by varying the withdrawal speed of the yarn. At the same time when the withdrawal speed is varied, a signal is generated for controlling at least one of the parameters of the crimping device, which influences the formation of the yarn plug, so that it is possible to produce a uniformly crimped yarn.

  • Patent number: 6186435
Abstract: A method and apparatus for winding a continuously advancing yarn, wherein the yarn is wound into a package that is formed on a rotating tubular core, the yarn being traversed by a yarn guide within a traverse stroke. At the beginning of each traverse stroke, the yarn guide is accelerated within a reversal length to a guiding speed, and after traversing the traverse length it is decelerated within a second reversal length. The yarn traversing mechanism includes a belt drive system for reciprocating the yarn guide and which is controlled by a programmable control device such that the yarn guide is moved within a traverse stroke which is axially shorter than the package length and which is reciprocated between the ends of the package without changing the length of the traverse stroke.

  • Patent number: 6158689
Abstract: A yarn winding machine for winding a continuously advancing yarn into packages, the yarn being guided in a yarn traversing mechanism which includes a traversing unit and a grooved roll downstream thereof in the direction of the advance of the yarn. To transfer the yarn from a full package mounted on one winding spindle to an empty tube mounted on another winding spindle, the spindle mounting the full yarn package is moved to a doffing position and the spindle mounting the empty winding tube is moved to the winding position. The machine is provided with a yarn deflection device, which comprises a guide plate extending parallel to the circumference of the grooved roll, and a yarn guide adapted for movement in a direction parallel to the winding spindles.

  • Patent number: 6109558
Abstract: A yarn traversing apparatus for reciprocating a running yarn to form a wound yarn package, and wherein the yarn is reciprocated by sequential contact with oppositely rotating rotator blades. The blades can each be driven at a variable rotational speed, so that irrespective of the position of the yarn radially along the length of the rotator blades, the traversing speed of the yarn can be controlled so as to follow a predetermined traversing speed profile, which may be constant or variable.

  • Patent number: 6076760
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a yarn winding machine, wherein a yarn is wound at a constant speed to a package on a driven winding spindle. A contact roll lies against the surface of the package. To enable an increasing package diameter, the center to center distance between the contact roll and the winding spindle is changed as a function of a variation in the rotational speed of the contact roll. To this end, the variation of the rotational speed of the contact roll is measured in each of a sequential series of predetermined time intervals T and converted into a control signal for changing the position of either the winding spindle or the contact roll.

  • Patent number: 4742621
Abstract: A safety device on a quill with a sensing head fixably connected thereto interrupts a positioning motion of the quill in case of a collision of the sensing head. For this purpose there is fastened to the quill a mounting plate 6, on which rests a bearing plate on at least three balls 20. The sensing head is fixable to the bearing plate. Several switches and switching cams assigned to them are offset relative to the balls on the bearing plate. In case of a collision of the sensing head, the bearing plate is deflected relative to the mounting plate, thereby causing at least one switch to interrupt the driving motion of the quill.

  • Patent number: 4683034
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for separating dimethyl isophthalate (DMI) and dimethyl orthophthalate (DMO) and other by-products from their mixture with dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), formed in the oxidation of p-xylene followed by esterification with methanol, by crystallization from the melt.Initially, the esterification product is here distilled once or several times. The DMT-rich fraction obtained is then subjected wholly or partially to one or several crystallizations from the melt, and the DMI-DMO fraction thus obtained is at least partially removed from the system. As an alternative, the DMT-rich fraction is first recrystallized from methanol, the methanol is then evaporated from the mother liquor and the remaining residue is subjected to one or several crystallizations from the melt. The DMI-DMO fraction thus obtained is again at least partially removed from the system.

  • Patent number: 4504021
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a ribbon free randomly wound yarn package is disclosed, and wherein a plurality of critical winding ratios at which undesirable pattern formations or ribbons would normally occur are determined and stored in a microprocessor control unit. During the winding operation, the spindle speed and traversing frequency are monitored by sensors and are transmitted to the control unit, and the control unit computes the optimum time for rapidly changing the traversing frequency so that the actual winding ratio moves rapidly through each of the approaching critical winding ratios. The original traversing frequency is re-established after having passed beyond each of the critical winding ratios.

  • Patent number: 4248819
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for improving the processing properties of powdery polyolefins. It is endeavored by this process to obtain a polyolefin powder which can be processed on screw extruders to an almost bubble-free product. The polyolefin powder is heated to a temperature of between 40.degree. C. and its melting point and introduced into a gap between two gap-forming elements. In this gap, the powder is compressed with a pressure of from 0.1 to 10 t per cm of gap length, and the powder so compressed is then comminuted.
