Abstract: Compounds of the formula I ##STR1## in which n is 1-30 and X, Y, R, Ar.sup.1 and Ar.sup.2 are as defined in claim 1 can be prepared by reaction of a benzil dialkyl ketal with a diol. Depending on the molar ratio of the two reaction components, products having a different polycondensation degree n are obtained. the compounds can be used as photoinitiators.

Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which a is 1, 2, or 3, R.sup.1 is an uncharged, carbocyclic or heterocyclic aromatic ring, unsubstituted or substituted, R.sup.2 is an unsubstituted or substituted cyclopentadienyl or indenyl anion, and .vertline.X.vertline..sup.a- is an a-valent anion, are suitable for use as latent curing catalysts for two-component polyurethane coatings which are activated by irradiation with actinic light or by heating.

Abstract: Compounds of the formula I, II, III and IIIa ##STR1## in which Ar.sup.1 is an unsubstituted or substituted aromatic radical and at least one of the radicals R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is an alkenyl, cycloalkenyl or arylmethyl group, are effective photoinitiators for photopolymerization of unsaturated compounds. They are particularly suitable for photocuring of pigmented systems.

Abstract: Titanocenes with, for example, .pi.-cyclopentadienyl ligands in which one or two carbo- or heterocyclic aromatic rings are bonded to the titanium, the aromatic rings being substituted by fluorine in at least one of the two ortho-positions relative to the metal-carbon bond and being substituted by at least one free or etherified or esterified polyoxaalkylene radical, are suitable as photoinitiators for the photopolymerization of ethylenically unsaturated substrates.

Abstract: Blocked benzotriazoles of the formula I or II ##STR1## wherein x is 1 or 2, R.sup.1 in the case of x=1 and in the formula II is an acyl group of the formula --CO--R.sup.5, a sulfonyl group of the formula --SO.sub.2 --R.sup.6, a phosphoryl group of the formula --P(O).sub.r (R.sup.14)(R.sup.15), and in the case of x=2 is --CO-- or a diacyl group of the formula --CO--CO-- or --CO--R.sup.7 --CO--, and R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, R.sup.14 and R.sup.15 have the meanings defined in claim 1, are crypto light stabilizers which can be activated by short-wave irradiation. Their use in coating materials is of interest in cases in which light stabilizers containing the free OH compounds have disadvantages with regard to their application.

Abstract: Titanocenes containing two 5-membered cyclodienyl groups, for example cyclopentadienyl, and one or two 6-membered carbocyclic or 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic aromatic rings which are substituted by a fluorine atom in at least one of the two ortho-positions to the titanium-carbon bond and contain, as a further substituent, unsubstituted or substituted 1-pyrryl, are suitable as photoinitiators for radiation-induced polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds.

Abstract: Naphthacene-5,12-diones which are substituted by at least one organic thio radical are not only photoinitiators for the photopolymerization but also sensitizers for the photodimerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds. Compositions made of these naphthacene-5,12-diones and ethylenically unsaturated compounds are suitable for the preparation of printing inks, paints, printing plates, resist materials or as image recording material.

Abstract: The preparation of abrasives, especially abrasive papers and abrasive fabrics, is improved by using an epoxy resin in conjunction with a cationic photoinitiator as binder for the abrasive particles. The binder is cured by irradiation with shortwave light and subsequent heating. The process is distinguished by low curing temperatures and brief curing times.

Abstract: Titanocenes with silylated .pi.-cyclopentadienyl ligands in which one or two carbo- or heterocyclic aromatic rings are bonded to the titanium, the aromatic rings being substituted by fluorine, --CF.sub.3, --C.sub.2 F.sub.5, --CF.sub.2 CL or --CF.sub.2 CH.sub.3 in at least one of the two ortho-positions relative to the metal-carbon bonds, are suitable as photoinitiators for the photopolymerization of ethylenically unsaturated substrates. They are distinguished by a high sensitivity, stability to air and the action of heat, and a high activity in the region of UV light to visible light. They are furthermore readily soluble in the photopolymerizable compositions.

Abstract: Liquid, highly active photoinitiators are obtained by dissolving a solid photoinitiator of a titanocene type in liquid photoinitiators of the type of the .alpha.-hydroxy- or .alpha.-amino-acetophenones or in a liquid mixture of an .alpha.-hydroxy- or .alpha.-aminoacetophenone photocuring agent with one or more other photoinitiators.

Abstract: The invention relates to ester mixtures of polyalkylpiperidine derivatives of the formulae I and II ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-12 alkyl, C.sub.3-8 alkenyl, C.sub.7-11 aralkyl, cyanomethyl or C.sub.2-4 acyl, R.sub.3 is C.sub.1-18 alkylene, C.sub.2-18 oxaalkylene, Chd 2-18 thiaalkylene, C.sub.2-18 azaalkylene or C.sub.2-8 alkenylene and R.sub.4 is C.sub.1-4 alkyl. These mixtures are suitable as stabilizers for plastics.
