  • Patent number: 6743835
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing nondusting free-flowing pigment concentrates with removal of the water from pigment suspensions comprising polymers and dispersants in a fluidized bed drier. The resulting bead-form pigment concentrates are nondusting and readily free-flowing. The invention further embraces the use of pigment concentrates prepared in this way for coloring plastics and polymers.

  • Publication number: 20020151639
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of micronized polyolefin powders to prepare pigment concentrates for coloring polyolefins. The micronized polyolefins and/or polyolefin waxes are prepared by grinding polyolefins and/or polyolefin waxes to prepare pigment concentrates, wherein the proportion of the particle size fraction smaller than 10 &mgr;m is at least 1% by weight, the proportion of the particle size fraction smaller than 100 &mgr;m is at least 10% by weight, and the proportion of the particle size fraction smaller than 500 &mgr;m is at least 90% by weight.

  • Patent number: 5880193
Abstract: The preparation of pigment concentrates for the coloring of resin molding compositions in which the pigment is very finely dispersed is carried out successfully using, for the preparation of the pigment concentrates, a dispersant which contains the following components:from 0 to 90% by weight of a substantially amorphous poly-.alpha.-olefin,from 0 to 90% by weight of polyolefin wax, from 0 to 30% by weight of crystalline polyolefin, andfrom 1 to 50% by weight of a specific polyacrylic acid ester.

  • Patent number: 5418311
Abstract: Polymers, which have polyurethane and/or polyurea groups and contain finely divided fillers, are synthesized by reacting compounds, which contain at least two hydroxyl and/or amino groups, with at least difunctional isocyanates, optionally in the presence of catalysts, and mixing with suitable fillers. The compounds, containing hydroxyl and/or amino groups, and the isocyanates, are separately mixed intimately with finely divided solids so that flowable powders are obtained. The powders obtained are mixed in a stoichiometrically required amount, and the powder mixture is subjected to the action of shear forces at, if necessary, a higher temperature. The mixture of solids obtained has a shelf life of several days or weeks without reaction between the reactive compounds contained therein.

  • Patent number: 5034084
Abstract: A method for the decorative coating of sheet-like materials, particularly laminated plastics and wood-derived panels is disclosed to achieve a marbled decor effect by pressing a support sheet, impregnated with a curable aminoplast resin and coateed with a thermoplastic or duroplastic synthetic resin, on the substrate to be coated at the melting or curing temperatures of the resins, in which(a) a support sheet is used which has two superimposed layers of a transparent, thermoplastic or duroplastic synthetic resin, which flows well under the pressing conditions, the layer facing the support sheet containing a flake or scale-like pigment in an amount of 2 to 40% by weight of the synthetic resin and the outer layer of synthetic resin being devoid of such pigments and(b) the pressing is carried out in a compression mold or tool, which has no surface profiling. The invention furthermore is directed to the synthetic resin-containing support sheets used in the inventive method.

  • Patent number: 5019198
Abstract: A method is disclsed for surface improving sheet-like substrates to impart them with a marbleized effect. A transfer sheet is pressed on the substrate at elevated temperatures. The transfer sheet is comprised of superimposed layers of synthetic resin. The resin layer closest to the backing of the transfer sheet is devoid of pigments, while the resin layer adjacent the pigment free layer comprises 2 to 40% by weight, calculated on the amount of resin, of a flake-like pigment. The pressing of the transfer sheet against the substrate is carried out with a press tool devoid of surface pattern and having a generally flat press surface.
