  • Publication number: 20040177666
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for cold roll forming a metallic strip (8), a steel strip in particular, comprising a single fame (1), having means for adjusting a roll gap, a winding device (9) which is arranged upstream of the cold roll single frame for unwinding the strip (8), and a winding device (10) which is arranged downstream of the cold roll single frame (1) for winding the strip (8). The aim of the invention is to eliminate all problems connected to strip tension when the thickness of the strip varies and to increase the speed of the strip. To achieve this, a strip accumulator (2) is arranged between the upstream winding device (9) and the single frame (1) for controlling the mass flow and/or tension of the rolling process, particularly when flexible rollers are used.

  • Patent number: 5479809
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for adjusting the upper edge of a lower work roll of a four high rolling stand to the rolling line. In particular, the apparatus has a horizontally displacable lower wedge element having a stepped sloped upper surface and a vertically displacable upper wedge element positioned underneath the chock of the lower back-up roll. This upper wedge element has a stepped sloped lower surface corresponding to and resting on the stepped sloped upper surface of said lower wedge element. A lift device is used for lifting the upper wedge element and the chock along the vertical axis so that the lower wedge element can be horizontally positioned. Thereafter, the upper wedge element and the chock are lowered onto the lower wedge element, thereby adjusting the upper edge of the lower roll in the roll stand to the roll line.

  • Patent number: 4459048
Abstract: Where oil film bearings are used on rolling mill rolls provided with conical roll necks, the bearing bush being interference fitted to the roll neck to rotate along with the roll neck, adhesive friction may cause contact corrosion between the bearing bush and the roll neck. To prevent such detriment, the oil grooves are machined slopingly into the conical inner surface of the rotating bearing bush in order to permit creep oil issuing from the oil grooves during operation to spread over ungrooved rotational partial surfaces by the effect of the centrifugal force. The lubricating oil is supplied to the oil grooves through bores distributed on the circumference of the bush by contact with the compressed oil film present between the cylindrical outside surface of the rotating bearing bush and the fixed bearing bush on the roll chock.
