  • Patent number: 4256540
Abstract: A horizontal coke oven battery construction in which a pusher is mounted to extend into the batteries from one side and push coke out of the batteries on the opposite side, comprises a plurality of coke oven batteries disposed in a row. A first waste gas flue extends along the pusher side of the batteries and a second waste gas flue extends along the coke side. A stack flue at one end of the batteries is connected to the first and second waste gas flues. The construction includes means for directing the heating gases into each oven battery during operation so that, in respect to the pusher and coke size, approximately one-half of the batteries is heated by upward burning and the other half is heated by downward burning. For example, all odd numbered batteries may be heated in the same direction and all even numbered batteries heated in the same direction.

  • Patent number: 4240910
Abstract: A method for clarifying coke quenching water or other waters which are contaminated by solids, with a wide grain spectrum, in an operation in which the fine portions of the solids suspended and carried along with the water are removed from the water by filtration and the clarified water is returned in a cycle, comprising, depositing the water into a filter shaft so that the substances removed from the contaminated water build up in the shaft and themselves form a filter bed, continuing to pass the water through the filter bed from the top to the bottom in a manner so that the velocity of flow of the water in the filter bed decreases constantly and so as to preclarify the water which passes through the bed and subsequently refiltering the preclarified water in a trough basin which rises from the bottom to the top. Thereafter, the refiltered water is directed into a discharge channel from the trough basin which overflows above the basin.

  • Patent number: 4151082
Abstract: A settling unit for coke quenching water, which is circulated in a closed cycle, comprises a settling basin having substantially vertical side walls with a drain surface sloping downwardly alongside one of the sidewalls and a conduit for the quenching water disposed between the drain and the sidewall in a position to supply quenching water to the settling basin along the entire width of the sidewall and also to receive drained water from the drain surface. A trackway is defined above the basin and the drain surface and it includes a dredging carriage which is movable therealong having a dredging bucket which may be manipulated to pick up the solids from the basin or from the drain surface and to deposit them on the drain surface as necessary.

  • Patent number: 4145195
Abstract: The device is positioned in a stack arranged above a location where coke quenching is performed. The coke quenching, which takes place below the stack, evolves steam and gases containing solid coke particles or dust, and which must be prevented from passing into the outside atmosphere. The steam and gases flow upwardly through the stack and the device separates the solid coke particles and dust from the steam and gases. The device comprises a support beam carrying a plurality of shutter-like baffles, of plastic material, and liquid spray elements, and which is variable in length and positioned either obliquely or horizontally across the upper portion of the stack. In between successive coke quenching operations, the liquid spray elements are activated to flush the trapped solid coke particles and dust from the shutter-like baffles. The adjustable length of the device provides for the device to be positioned to extend across the stack at varying angles, or even horizontally.

  • Patent number: 4088233
Abstract: The device for pushing incandescent coke out of individual chambers of a coke oven battery which has a plurality of horizontally arranged coke oven chambers, comprises a trackway of spaced apart inboard and outboard tracks which extend along the length of the coke oven battery and a gantry-like carriage which is movable over the trackway and carries the apparatus for pushing the coke out of the individual batteries. The carriage includes inboard legs which are elastically connected to a platform portion which contains the movable ram and other operating parts and outboard legs which are rigidly connected to the platform. The outboard legs also carry contact pressure mechanisms which connect between the legs and the outboard tracks for distributing horizontal stresses to the tracks.

  • Patent number: 4008129
Abstract: An intermediate coke oven head comprises spaced apart substantially parallel steel-concrete side walls with cross walls connected between the side walls and dividing the space therebetween into a plurality of individual compartments. An aeration and ventilation system is connected to the compartments and includes one air inlet from the exterior of the walls extending into each compartment adjacent the lower ends thereof and at least one air outlet connected into the top of the compartments.

  • Patent number: 3935078
Abstract: A waste heat exhaust system for side burner regenerative coke oven batteries, comprises a coke oven battery which has a chimney flue connected to one end of the battery and includes a plurality of flue gas ducts which extend in a longitudinal direction and are connected at their one ends to the chimney flue. A plurality of transverse first flues of unequal length have outer ends which are connected to respective waste gas lines which are located on the pusher side of the battery. The first flues extend transversely to the flue gas ducts and they are connected at their inner ends to respective ones of the gas ducts. A similar set of second flues of unequal length have outer ends which are connected to the waste gas lines on the coke side of the battery and they have inner ends which are connected to respective ones of the gas ducts.
