Patent number: 12155760Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to time synchronization in a network. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes a first circuit having a first clock configured to maintain a local time value for a node coupled to a network. The first circuit is configured to send a first message to a second circuit. The first message includes a first nonce. The second circuit has a second clock that maintains a reference time value for the network. The first circuit receives a second message from the second circuit, the second message including a second nonce and is associated with a timestamp identifying the reference time value. The first circuit compares the first nonce to the second nonce to determine whether the timestamp is valid and, in response to determining that the timestamp is valid, uses the timestamp to synchronize the first clock with the second clock.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2022Date of Patent: November 26, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Birju N. Publication number: 20150324171Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for a random number generator. The random number generator may comprise an analog block that includes: a summing analog amplifier; and an integrator coupled the summing analog amplifier, in which, the output of the integrator is fed back to the summing analog amplifier. Further, the random number generator may include: a threshold detector coupled to the integrator; a latch coupled to the threshold detector and a clock, wherein the latch, based upon the output from the threshold detector, outputs a randomized digital bit pattern. The summing analog amplifier adds the randomized digital bit pattern to the fed back output of the integrator. Further, a gain controller may apply a gain to the analog block to vary the time constant of the analog block to ensure sufficient entropy of the outputted randomized digital bit pattern.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 12, 2014Publication date: November 12, 2015Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Manfred VON WILLICH

Patent number: 6021197Abstract: In a method and apparatus for controlling the operation of a signal decoder in a broadcasting system, a broadcast signal and an encrypted signature are generated and the signature is added to the signal. The signal together with the signature is broadcasted and received in the decoder, where the signature is decrypted and compared with a verification value. If a match occurs, further operation of the decoder is allowed. If a match does not occur, further operation of the decoder is disallowed.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1996Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignee: Irdeto B.V.Inventors: Manfred von Willich, Simon Paul Ashley Rix
