  • Patent number: 5078960
Abstract: A device for relieving the pressure in a containment of a nuclear power station. The device includes a filter unit for filtering compressed air from the containment and discharging the air to the atmosphere. Radioactive substances entrained in the compressed air are removed. The filter unit includes an aerosol-filter subunit located within the containment, and a molecular-sieve subunit for iodine filtering located outside the containment in an auxiliary equipment building. Ducts and fittings connect the subunits of the filter unit. At least one duct extends through the containment wall and can be opened and closed by fittings which can be actuated in the event of a failure.

  • Patent number: 4936715
Abstract: An apparatus for pneumatically conveying bulk material in particular bulk material which is difficult to handle includes a conveyor line having a plurality of conveyor line sections for transporting the bulk material. Each of the conveyor line sections comprises a rigid outer pipe and an elastic inner pipe of an outer diameter which is smaller than the inner diameter of the outer pipe in pressureless state. The connection of adjacent conveyor line sections is attained by a sectional ring which is placed over each axial end of the outer pipe and about which the elastic pipe is folded outwardly, a flange element arranged between the thus shaped axial ends of adjoining conveyor line sections, and external brace elements extending between successive flange elements for bracing the latter so as to connect adjoining conveyor line sections in pressure-sealed manner.

  • Patent number: 4883114
Abstract: Steel is teemed into one end of a continuous casting mold to form a continuously cast strand which is withdrawn through the other end of the mold. The mold is oscillated and the strand is accelerated through a first range of speeds less than 1.2 meter per minute and a second range of speeds greater than this value. As the strand accelerates through the first range, the oscillation frequency is increased from a value between 60 and 120 cycles per minute to a value between 120 and 200 cycles per minute while holding the stroke constant. On the other hand, when the strand accelerates through the second range, the oscillation frequency is maintained constant and the stroke is increased with strand speed. A condition of negative strip is maintained in both ranges and the time for which negative strip occurs during each oscillation cycle approximates 0.1 second.

  • Patent number: 4317482
Abstract: A method for preventing damage to the strand guide elements of strand guide arrangements or roller aprons of a continuous casting installation for metals, especially steel, wherein it is possible to withdraw a strand which is immobile in the strand guide arrangement or roller apron, by means of a powerful withdrawal unit, without the risk of damaging elements of the strand guide arrangement. At pre-selected locations of the strand guide arrangement there are determined the withdrawal forces effective at such locations and acting upon the elements of the strand guide arrangement. Upon exceeding maximum permissible values the strand withdrawal operation is interrupted.

  • Patent number: 4304290
Abstract: The narrow sides or side walls of a plate mold are adjusted or set, during continuous casting, while increasing their mutual spacing from one another in order to increase the sectional shape or format of the continuously cast strand. The withdrawn heat of the narrow sides of the mold is measured and used as a control magnitude for setting the adjustment speed of such narrow sides of the mold.

  • Patent number: 4300620
Abstract: A method of monitoring the mold geometry during the continuous casting of billets and blooms formed of steel. During the progress of the continuous casting operation there is measured the actual value of the withdrawal of heat at the continuous casting mold and this value is compared with a set or reference value. In the presence of a deviation exceeding a predetermined magnitude there is determined a damaging mold geometry.

  • Patent number: 4038520
Abstract: An element guard for an electric toaster is formed from a sheet metal blank and has at least one grid formed by extending a slotted area of the blank. The guard defines a toasting chamber within the toaster and the grid has openings therein so that heat radiated by a heating element of the toaster can toast bread in the toasting chamber.

  • Patent number: 3971515
Abstract: A ball mill having a wall forming a hollow tubular grinding chamber therein with balls or rods within the chamber and means for driving the chamber in a vibratory grinding motion with a fixed body in the form of an elongate shaft within the chamber supported on a tubular wearing plate having a gap along one side and springing outwardly to support itself firmly within the grinding chamber and having arms extending between the wearing plate and the fixed shaft for supporting the shaft and a removable end for the grinding chamber so that the shaft and wearing plate can be removed for replacement from the grinding chamber.
