  • Patent number: 6432165
Abstract: A blowing lance for treating molten metals which are situated in vacuum-treatment vessels, in particular steel in RH vessels, having a central pipe and an encasing pipe which is arranged coaxially with respect to the central pipe and can be cooled by a cooling medium. The central pipe and the encasing pipe are connected to supply lines, which in turn can be connected to an oxygen station, a fuel-gas station and an inert-gas station and to a solids-feed device. In this lance, the cooled encasing pipe is arranged at a distance from the central pipe over its entire length. The free annular area (AR) between the two pipes satisfying the following statement AR=0.8 to 1.2×AZ where AZ=free cross-sectional area of the central pipe. The end of the central pipe is designed in the form of a Laval nozzle. The nozzle opening of the central pipe is being arranged at a distance (a) inside the encasing tube, where a=0.5 to 0.8×d where d=clear diameter of the central pipe.

  • Patent number: 6201212
Abstract: A process and apparatus for continuous welding by a laser beam of guided and abutted strips or plates which lie in a plane comprises supplying a follow-up process gas to a welding location and thereafter, cooling the welding location by applying a sprayed-on coolant to an area adjacent to the welding location. The coolant comprises a mixture of water and gas, and is sprayed onto the strips or plates in the form of a flat jet. The flat jet extends towards the welding location and lies in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the strips or plates. The leading edge of the flat jet forms an acute angle with the laser beam.

  • Patent number: 5204505
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for the welding of strips 1, 2 without a filler by means of a laser beam 6. To keep the gap width of the joint edges formed by the strips 1, 2 at the joint as small as possible, disposed downstream of the welding focus in the direction L in which the strips 1, 2 run is a cooling device 10, 11, the cooling intensity is controlled to a constant small gap width in dependence on the gap width measured immediately upstream of the welding focus, referred to the direction L.

  • Patent number: 4852523
Abstract: An atmospheric gas boiler has two vertically arranged end pieces and at least one middle piece arranged between them, as well as burner lances disposed in the lower part of the gas boiler. The pieces of the boiler through which hot water flows define a furnace, with secondary heating surfaces adjoining thereto. In order to lower the quantity of NOX arising during the combustion, the middle piece has a tongue through which hot water flows, extending into the furnace. The tongue possesses cooling ribs on the outside, which extend into the adjoining furnace spaces.
