  • Publication number: 20020123647
Abstract: A method for producing an unsaturated carboxylic acid comprises: (a) contacting, in a reaction zone, an alkane with a catalyst containing a mixed metal oxide, under conditions which produce a product gas comprising the unsaturated carboxylic acid, unreacted alkane and a product alkene; (b) recovering unreacted alkane and product alkene from the product gas; and (c) recycling the recovered unreacted alkane and product alkene to the reaction zone; wherein the mixed metal oxide consists of a material having the formula

  • Patent number: 6180825
Abstract: A process for preparing a catalyst comprises: admixing metal compounds, at least one of which is an oxygen containing compound, and at least one solvent to form a solution; removing the solvent from the solution to obtain a catalyst precursor; and calcining the catalyst precursor under an inert atmosphere to form a catalyst having the formula AaMmNnXxOo wherein a, m, n, x and o are the molar proportions of A, M, N, X and O, respectively, and o is dependent on the oxidation state of the elements A, M, N and X, wherein A is Mo, W, Fe, Nb, Ta, Zr, Ru or mixtures thereof, M is V, Ce, Cr or mixtures thereof, N is Te, Bi, Sb, Se or mixtures thereof, and X is Nb, Ta, W, Ti, Al, Zr, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ru, Co, Rh, Ni, Pd, Pt, Sb, Bi, B, In, Ce or mixtures thereof. The catalyst is useful for the gas phase oxidation of alkanes to unsaturated aldehydes or carboxylic acids.

  • Patent number: 5777034
Abstract: The invention encompasses a new methacrylate resin blend composition, and a method of making the blend composition, having improved solvent craze resistance. The new blend composition contains a methacrylate matrix resin, particles of a single layer polymer, and, optionally, an acrylic multi-layer polymer. Particles of the single layer polymer derived from 50% or more methyl methacrylate, and having weight average molecular weight (Mw) at least 120% of the Mw of the methacrylate matrix resin component of the blend, the particles having a diameter of from 50 to 500 nanometers, have been discovered to confer a solvent craze resistance value to the methacrylate resin blend which is at least twice the solvent craze resistance value of the methacrylate resin absent particles of the single layer polymer. Solvent craze resistance of the blend may be improved by as much as 10-fold or more over the solvent craze resistance of the methacrylate matrix resin alone.
