Abstract: The present invention is a system including a modular hardware platform consisting of Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, a programmable micro controller unit, a communication module and a software platform, programmable on site to track, monitor and control access to cargo containers, truck trailers and similar transportable devices to curtail theft, pilferage and from intercession by third parties such as terrorists. The system enables access to the interior of a container to a digital key which contains an authorization password to initiate access to the container. The system may be programmed such that access is denied until the container reaches a preprogrammed destination.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a vehicle monitoring and reporting system that includes a vehicular subsystem attached (or at least attachable) to a motor vehicle, a non-vehicular subsystem that typically remains separate and distinct from the motor vehicle, a communication module for transmitting data between the vehicular and non-vehicular subsystems. The vehicular subsystem generally includes a computer, a first data card reader that is interconnected with the computer, and a plurality of data input devices that are also interconnected with the computer. The non-vehicular subsystem has a central processing unit and a second data card reader that is interconnected with the central processing unit. Further, the vehicle monitoring and reporting system of the present invention includes at least one data card disposable in the first and second data card readers. These data cards are preferably operator-specific, as well as being capable of having data read from and written to the same.
