  • Publication number: 20200021006
Abstract: An antenna overlay system includes antenna hardware, a communication link, and electronic circuitry disposed on a substrate. The communication link couples the electronic circuitry to the antenna hardware. During operation, the electronic circuitry in communication with the antenna hardware is operable to control transmission and reception of wireless signals in a wireless region. An adhesive layer disposed on a surface of the substrate couples the substrate to an object such as a window. In one arrangement, the window is a low-E glass windowpane that substantially attenuates wireless signals from being received by communication equipment in a building in which the windowpane is installed. The antenna overlay system provides enhanced RF signal reception and transmission.

  • Publication number: 20190350013
Abstract: According to one configuration, a system includes resources in which to configure a base-band manager, a first virtual radio, a second virtual radio, and a third virtual radio. The first virtual radio is coupled to a first set of antenna elements of antenna hardware, which provide wireless connectivity to first communication devices in a first wireless coverage region. The second virtual radio is coupled to a second set of antenna elements of the antenna hardware, which provide wireless connectivity to second communication devices in a second wireless coverage region. The third radio communication hardware is coupled through a third set of antenna elements of the antenna hardware to a primary backhaul in communication with a remote network. The base-band manager couples the first virtual radio and the second communication resource to the third virtual radio, providing the first communication devices and the second communication devices access to a remote network.

  • Publication number: 20190319858
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for guaranteeing a quality of experience (QoE) associated with data provision services in an enhanced data delivery network. In one embodiment, a network architecture having service delivery over at least portions of extant infrastructure (e.g., a hybrid fiber coax infrastructure) is disclosed, which includes standards-compliant ultra-low latency and high data rate services (e.g., 5G NR services) via a common service provider. In one exemplary implementation, “over-the-top” voice data services may enable exchange of voice traffic with client devices in the aforementioned network. A distribution node may use a detection rule to identify received packets as voice traffic, and cause a dedicated bearer to attach to the default bearer, thereby enabling delivery of high-quality voice traffic by at least prioritizing the identified packets thereafter and sustaining the delivery even in a congested network environment, and improving the quality of service (QoS) and QoE for the user(s).

  • Publication number: 20190320494
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for unified high-bandwidth, low-latency data services provided with enhanced user mobility. In one embodiment, a network architecture having service delivery over at least portions of extant infrastructure (e.g., a hybrid fiber coax infrastructure) is disclosed, which includes standards-compliant ultra-low latency and high data rate services (e.g., 5G NR services) via a common service provider. Premises devices are used to provide the 5G-based services to users at a given premises and thereabouts. In another variant, local area (e.g., “pole mounted”) radio devices are used to provide supplemental RF coverage, including during mobility scenarios. The 5G-capable network enables uninterrupted and “seamless” exchange of data at a client device by utilizing a common waveform protocol (e.g., 3GPP-based) at a premises device and an external radio device to communicate with a client device at different locations and times while the device is moving between inside and outside the premises.

In one variant, an expanded frequency band (e.g., 1.6 GHz in total bandwidth) is used over the coaxial portions of the HFC infrastructure, which is allocated to two or more sub-bands. Wideband amplifier apparatus are used to support delivery of the sub-bands to extant HFC network nodes (e.g., hubs or distribution points) within the network. Premises devices are used to provide the 5G-based services to users at a given premises and thereabouts. In another variant, local area (e.g., “pole mounted”) radio devices are used to provide supplemental RF coverage, including during mobility scenarios.

  • Publication number: 20190268633
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for content fragmentation, distribution, protection, and re-constitution within a content distribution network. In one embodiment, the apparatus and methods enable distribution of content fragments to edge nodes (which may include user or subscriber CPE), thereby enabling edge networks or membership groups to be established wherein content can be shared solely at the edge. In one variant, high data bandwidth, symmetric uplink/downlink, low latency PHY links (e.g., 5G NR-compliant wireless interfaces) between the edge nodes participating in the edge networks or membership groups are used such that particular quality of service/experience performance requirements can be met. Distribution of the fragments also advantageously enhances redundancy and security.

  • Publication number: 20190158382
Abstract: Both wireless communication and communications via a cable modem are supported between a network node and a customer premises. Alternative communications links provide redundancy and the possibility to take advantage of the different types of links capacity to provide a level of service that would not be possible using a single communications link to a customer premises. In various embodiments a network node, such as a cable network node hubsite, has an optical connection to the Internet or another communications network and provides network access to one or a plurality of customer premises. The network node includes a wireless access point, e.g., pole mounted base station, as well as one or more cable modem interfaces to thereby allow for both wireless and cable modem based communications. This allows for packets of different applications to traverse different links and/or to switch between links in the event of maintenance or reliability issues.
